Jon Stewart Smells It, Too
Washington Times ^ | March 03, 2005

The Democratic dominoes clearly are beginning to fall when Jon Stewart, the host of "The Daily Show," says, "I haven't seen results like this ever in [the Middle East]." As anyone who watches the Comedy Central "news" show knows, Mr. Stewart isn't a serious political pundit, but he is unabashedly liberal both on and off air. And since he commands a fairly large audience of mostly younger adults, he is perhaps as much an indicator of the liberal mindset as the New York Times.

His comments came during a Tuesday night interview with former Clinton aide Nancy Soderberg, who was promoting her new book, "The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might." Unfortunately for Mrs. Soderberg, the host spent the entire interview essentially undermining the very thesis of her book, which, as far as we can tell, criticizes the Bush doctrine of transforming the Middle East.

As a microcosm of the Democrats' dilemma, the interview proved enlightening. One such moment came when Mrs. Soderberg said, "[A]s a Democrat, you don't want anything nice to happen to the Republicans, and you don't want them to have progress. But as an American, you hope good things would happen." To which Mr. Stewart replied, "Do you think that the people of Lebanon would have had the courage of their conviction, having not seen -- not only the invasion but the election which followed [in Iraq]? It's almost as though that the Iraqi election has emboldened this crazy -- something's going on over there. I'm smelling something."

Mr. Stewart should be applauded for his intellectual honesty, as well as his obvious pride in America's accomplishments. Mrs. Soderberg, however, couldn't be deterred from her rank partisanship. Here's one of her more odious comments: "Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget.

Oh, gee, SORRY our people haven't gotten to that, they've been kinda BUSY. They haven't been able to match the magnificent Clinton acievements in those reasons, but they'll get on it right away, lady.

Now go flog your Remainder-In-Waiting some more.

Exactly! That is the ONLY thing that matters to the `Rats. Everything else is thrown to the wind. One of the greatest examples I like to point out is Bill Clinton pardoning the FALN terrorists solely so his wife could buy votes for her Senate campaign. The lives of millions of New Yorkers were put at risk, and STILL are at risk, solely so she could play Senator in a state she never lived in, never worked in, or rarely to this day ever visits. And if you don`t think millions are in danger, consider the FALN bombed New York and Chicago a total of 130 times in the span of a few years. Compare that to Al Qaeda.

yes, she's so fortunate to live in a country where she can write freely.

What's Stewart's religion/sex preference, by the way?

He is out to make people laugh nothing more nothing less. People get far too worked up over a comedy show. Is David Letterman trying to counter Rush?

"After earning master's degree, Soderberg worked for Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy for seven years as his foreign affairs advisor. She also was foreign policy advisor in two unsuccessful campaigns for president: Walter Mondale in 1984 and Michael Dukakis in 1988."

Uh, Bush should take advice from this person?

They can always send Roger Clinton back over to North Korea to serenade Lil Kim.

Let's not be too hasty in calling Jon Stewart a total liberal. I've seen him bash both sides of the spectrum. Yes, he tends to bash Republicans a bit more because we have a Republican President and a Republican-controlled Congress. We own the place, we're the most prominent, we're going to get bashed a bit more. I'm confident that if it was the other way around, Stewart would be bashing the Democrats with the same abandon. I'm not saying he doesn't have a liberal bent, but I don't think it is as pronounced as some would claim.

no, he is just a comedian who got involved with politics. if you've ever seen his show he skewers both sides, which is why he has a huge following among the college crowd especially. He skewers the bush side more than the other, but both get their share.

The Donks still miss Wellstone, who wanted a good union-protected state job for everyone.

Rush did a good job of tearing up this exchange. The woman will be election year fodder for any Demoncrat stupid enough to tap her as an adviser. Even if North Korea and Iran turn out bad, especially if they turn out bad any half wit in the GOP will be playing these sound clips in the next election.

But don't pity her, she will get a job because the Demoncrats always reward failure.

Daily Show is one of my favorites on TV. It's funny, current, and funny. Did I mention funny?

Stewart, albeit a lib, seems to have personal integrity, and is willing to see things for what they are. IMHO, that's what makes comedy funny - it has to be real.

Stewart's young audience doesn't take the Comedy Central title seriously. He's there for the jokes and is shooting from a liberal standpoint--but he's not hiding it. Unfortunately, the youngsters watching him consider him ah honest-to-goodness anchorman.

Believe it or not, I think Stewart was being sarcastic, and taking a shot at his fellow Dems.

He is a flaming liberal, but actually funny at times.

NO, sadly for the dems, Stewart is too honest to buy liberal kool aid, and too smart to allow dogma trump reality. I'm not saying he's one of us (yet), but he's moving in our direction.

no, I'm not being redundant because sex preference and religion are not the same thing, now are they?
