Jon Stewart Smells It, Too
Washington Times ^ | March 03, 2005

Posted on 03/03/2005 12:26:24 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

The Democratic dominoes clearly are beginning to fall when Jon Stewart, the host of "The Daily Show," says, "I haven't seen results like this ever in [the Middle East]." As anyone who watches the Comedy Central "news" show knows, Mr. Stewart isn't a serious political pundit, but he is unabashedly liberal both on and off air. And since he commands a fairly large audience of mostly younger adults, he is perhaps as much an indicator of the liberal mindset as the New York Times.

His comments came during a Tuesday night interview with former Clinton aide Nancy Soderberg, who was promoting her new book, "The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might." Unfortunately for Mrs. Soderberg, the host spent the entire interview essentially undermining the very thesis of her book, which, as far as we can tell, criticizes the Bush doctrine of transforming the Middle East.

As a microcosm of the Democrats' dilemma, the interview proved enlightening. One such moment came when Mrs. Soderberg said, "[A]s a Democrat, you don't want anything nice to happen to the Republicans, and you don't want them to have progress. But as an American, you hope good things would happen." To which Mr. Stewart replied, "Do you think that the people of Lebanon would have had the courage of their conviction, having not seen -- not only the invasion but the election which followed [in Iraq]? It's almost as though that the Iraqi election has emboldened this crazy -- something's going on over there. I'm smelling something."

Mr. Stewart should be applauded for his intellectual honesty, as well as his obvious pride in America's accomplishments. Mrs. Soderberg, however, couldn't be deterred from her rank partisanship. Here's one of her more odious comments: "Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget.

Exactly. The advice from this person should be valued somewhere between the Hamburglar and the Tooth Fairy.

I don't think Stewart said that, the Clintonista said it. I odn't much care for Stewart but he seems to at least have a point of view that he defends or, in this case, is willing to modify. But this chick is just loopy, putting out a book telling everyone how wrong the Bush administration policy is.

Well, at least a Dem is being honest.

We all know this is about defeating America so that they gain ascendancy, or so they think would be the result of undermining our President and the war.

Stewart's case os different as he isn't comfortable with what he knows is happening as a result of our actions. Apparently, he may be less deeply reflexize against Republicans and more reflexive in a classical sense about force, nukes, etc.. If that's the case it's understandable he'd be in this turloil overseeing a response he hates invalidate a response he typically supports. The question is whether the transformation of the M.E. will have the power to cause him to ultimately repudiate his failed ideology, or if he will cling to it in comfort.

"Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget.

And we know how well Democrats Carter and Clinton handled those two.

Stewart sounds more like a Kennedy-era liberal, a guy who gets that America isn't the bad guy. Come, John-cross over into the Dark Side...

Regrettably, too many Democrats refuse to stop and smell the sweet scent of freedom.

Realistically, when have Democrats (Liberals) ((Progressives)) (((Socialists))) EVER understood FREEDOM?

Let me guess, you often find yourself in a room full of people rolling on the floor laughing at something someone said and you are wondering what is so funny.

Geez, you've got a mean streak in you, don't you?

On the contrary, I've got a great sense of humor. I'm usually making the folks roll in the floor with laughter.

And I'm kind.

Nancy Soderbrug's comments are an insight into the leftist mentality. They're willing to sacrifice everything good for this country as long as it hurts their political rivals. This kind of attitude, speech, and action is pretty much as treasonable as one can get, yet these losers still got half the presidential vote this past election.

IOW, you can't be a democrat AND an American?
I can't believe she said that.
