CALIENTE, Calif. -- Several chimpanzees escaped from their cages at an animal sanctuary and attacked workers, injuring two, authorities said. At least one chimp was shot to death. One of the employees was badly injured and had to be airlifted to a hospital after the attack at the Animal Haven Ranch, about 20 miles from Bakersfield, said Cheryl Longwith, a sheriff's spokeswoman. The other employee's condition was not disclosed. Animal Haven employees shot and killed at least one of the escaped chimpanzees, Longwith said. Longwith said she did not know how the chimpanzees had escaped their cages or whether any remained at large.

A Chimp sanctuary in Bakersfield....no wonder they were pissed. Only question is - how long until they lock themselves back in.

Chimps are quite strong and are often vicious. For instance a female chimp will often kill another female's baby in order to establish dominance.

When the Berzerk-ley California types give voting rights to monkeys, will they automatically vote Democrat or just scratch their behinds and sniff their fingers?

(The monkeys that is, not the humanoids)

Chimps are tiny, but supposedly they are hard as nails. I remember watching a nature documentary that claimed a chimpanzee's arms are at least 3 times stronger than a man's.

Let's see:

"Head and body length ranges from 28 to 33 inches in females and 30-36 inches in males. Height ranges from about 3-1/4 feet to 5-1/2 feet. Weight is from 99 pounds to 176 pounds. Captives may be heavier."

You consider ~140 lbs average "tiny"?

They are not tiny. They are shorter than people when standing, but are bulky and weigh about as much as a person does.

They had to use deadly force on at least one tiny chimpanzee. Probably with good reason.

Some chimps just need killing.

Chimps in the wild are actually very vicious and brutal creatures unlike the cute and fuzzy reputation they have while young. They actually love meat including human. They've been known to snatch infants from grass huts and even small children. They also hunt smaller monkees in squads and actually have an amazing technique they use in rounding them ,chasing them up trees and throwing them down to the ground, while the others on the ground snatch them up and kill them for food.Excellant teamwork. They will also brutally assault and mutilate other chimps that wander in their territory.

HA!

ACtually the line is: "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty APE!!!!"

Anf the way the hrsewhipped CHarleton, Mr. Hughes, reminds me of something my dear friend Mister...Roseanne Barbra Striesand siad to me upon seeing that scene....

"I haven't seen a beating like that since someone dropped a bannana down my pants and turned a hungry monkey loose...."

You have probably never seen these animals "up close". I can attest that they are extremely intelligent and remarkably strong, even in youth. You would not want to go mano-e-chimp with an adult, I can say that. They can kick butt. In general, large animals are very formidable, and hard to kill, up close and without firearms.
