Moose rings twice (Norway)

Moose rings twice

It was too early to be the postman, and a family in Buvikåsen found instead that their unexpected visitor was from the animal kingdom.

The family had barely risen from their beds when they heard the doorbell chime on a frosty morning during the winter holidays last week.

The man of the house, which is on the edge of a forest, tried to spot who their unexpected visitor could be, but the view of the front door was blocked by a veranda roof - but he could hear heavy breathing from the entrance stairs, newspaper Trønderbladet reports.

At this point the family realized that they were being paid a surprisingly direct visit from one of the moose that had been roaming around their home in recent weeks.

The doorbell rang one more time before their large visitor changed its mind and ran off. From tracks in the fresh snow it was clear that a moose had indeed been the one trying to get into the house by unusually human methods.

News from the wildlife front of Norway, our gallant allies in the War against Terror.

I was hoping to find a new story about the wary Norwegian border guards catching someone up to no good, or perhaps even a story about bison in Norway, this morning, but alas no luck.

"Ping" for the Norway ping list.

I am going to have to do something about this list; I have to type in all the names, rather than "copying and pasting," because on this computer, Microsoft Word does not get along with Explorer; in fact, Microsoft Word loathes and detests Explorer, fights, resists, Explorer.

And this is not an old computer.

The deal is, I need Microsoft Word something more than I need Explorer (and internet access), because I spend quite a bit of time writing (non-fiction humor).

In fact, today a new story comes out (not accessible by internet, though, for copyright reasons beyond my control), about the time I hired a Greek plumber to yank out my four wisdom teeth--and so I really really really really really like Microsoft Word, even when it balks at Explorer.

Are you saving the list of names in a Word doc? try saving it in a plain text doc using Notepad - that may make cutting and pasting more successful. This is all, of course, given that I understand the problem to begin with.......

I wonder what it wanted. Would have been a better story if the guy answered the door and the moose tried to get him to follow him.

Good Norwegian cheese:

Ekte Gjetost means pure goat cheese in Norwegian. Ekte Gjetost is a unique Norwegian whey cheese made from 100% goat's whey, its colour is darker than Ski Queen's and the flavour, richer. Its texture is firm and it is served in thin slices on bread or biscuits.

After I am on Free Republic--via Explorer, naturally--and then wish to open the Microsoft Word document from which I "copy" to "paste" here (such as this news story from that excellent newspaper the Aftenposten), well.....

Explorer is open, and I am opening the Microsoft Word document.....

.....and I manage to get one and a half cigarettes smoked while patiently waiting for the Microsoft Word document to open.....

I go back to Explorer (this page), so as to "paste" the document.....

.....and I manage to get another one and a half cigarettes smoked while patiently waiting for the document to "paste" itself.

Sometimes I think it would actually be faster, if I were to print the article from its web-site, and then type the whole thing in myself.

Tourists pet Haelga at the Swedish Moose Dairy FarmHealthy, Tasty... Expensive

STOCKHOLM (JP) - Farmers in northern Sweden are milking moose, hoping that cheese-lovers with deep pockets will develop a taste for moose cheese.

It's healthy and tasty - and very expensive (nearly $500 per pound) because moose milk is hard to obtain.

Christer & Ulla Johansson started the 59-acre "Moose House" - the only moose dairy farm in Europe - seven years ago in Bjursholm (400 miles north of Stockholm). Moose House has 14 moose in the fields, but only three cows (Gullan, Haelga & Juna) can be milked. The cows were found as abandoned calves in the woods around Bjursholm, and were taken in by the Johansson family. The domesticated moose stay outdoors all year, and weigh about 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds).

Why so expensive? Moose only produce milk between May and September, and it takes up to two hours to milk a moose, with each producing up to a gallon of milk per day. Moose milk contains 12% fat and 12% protein, is kept refrigerated and curdling is done three times per year – yielding 660 pounds of cheese per year. Made in three varieties, the moose cheese can be sampled at the farm’s restaurant. Sales are mainly to upscale Swedish hotels and restaurants, and they have plans to export more cheese - especially their sour feta-type, which is laid down in oil and is easy to transport.

Moose House attracts 25,000 visitors per year, and is the main attraction in an activity center that also offers fishing, golf, canoe tours, and riding.

uh...I think that was "The Male Moose Always Ring Twice", although this story didn't indicate how many times the doorbell rang.

I use Microsoft Word for my "ping list" names, and it works fine (I use IE at work, Firefox at home). I've found that when I copy the FReeper name and then go to paste it, it's best to first copy it, then (in Word) click "edit", then "Paste Special", then "Unformatted Text". This might fix your problem. Of course, this is a non-issue with Notepad, so that should work as well.

Spyware maybe? Try downloading Firefox (www.mozilla.org) and see if that fixes your problem.

ping list/Word problems -- Just do a Google for Metapad.exe -- it is a GREAT free utility for Windows PCs, 20x better than the stock Notepad. The Options let you keep up to 16 recent docs instantly at hand....

antiVirus updated before download or first use, of course....

Download one of the freeware "clipboard" programs..
some of them are able to hold very large files..
Wordpad is good, it is a larger version of Windows Notepad..
My favorite clipboard proggie is called "Yankee Clipper"..
