"When a Taiwanese gets unemployed, do they get the check from China? "
Actually YES.
They will commute to China to get a job !!
I know it from one taiwanese fellow. Unemployment in Taiwan is on the rise - because the labor cost cannot compete with that of China - so many companies move out...
Great response-only wish I thought of it first
I will never understand why the world refuses to admit that China and Taiwan are 2 seperate countries.
I dunno, ask Chinese Christians or members of the Falun Gong what they think---of course, they may get killed for telling you...
There are many different ethnic groups among the Chinese. Just because they all look alike to you doesn't mean they all consider themselves the same people.
Becaus Taiwan is FREE. Protecting Taiwan is protecting FREEDOM. China must be stopped AT ALL COSTS because they will not stop at Taiwan. They are even expanding into the Soviet's former domain, South and Central America. Helping Iran get nukes as well as gave nukes to Pakistan.
The 2nd Amendment is all but dead here in the U.S. What's the difference? Should we Americans not worth fighting for?
Under the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1952, Taiwan belongs to neither PRC or ROC. The ROC fled there in 1949 and until 1987, the KMT ruled with an iron fist. But Lee Teng-hui changed all of that and Taiwan is now a free sovieriegn country. China is still the communist dictatorship it was in 1949.
I came across a curious bit of evidence suggesting IBM takes a position on the China-Taiwan controversy when I visited ibm.com the other day in order to enter my resumé in their database. In the spot where you are asked to indicate your country of residence, they have a drop-down list of countries to choose from. There is no "Taiwan" option but there is a "Taiwan, Province of China."
And now back to the regular discussion...
Where did you get this idea? Free and sovieriegn? Are you taking crazy pills? Taiwan hasn't even declared its independence from the mainland!!!! How can they be an independent sovieriegn nation? They are nothing but a rouge province, much like the Southern States were back in the 1860s. The United States regularly declares its support for a one china policy, not an independent Taiwan!!!
Next time come up with an argument that is actually a challenge and not a piece of communist propagandist filth that is more worthy of DUmmiestan.
Not a Chinese propagandist, but a man who puts the interest of America first.
Maybe you should ACTUALLY READ the documents I put up the links to. The US has publically stated WHILE ARMING TAIWAN WITH SOME OUR OUR MOST ADVANCED WEAPONS. Congress is blatently pro-Taiwan as well. The US and Japan have agreed to protect Taiwan from china. Your rhetoric does not change the fact that the US WILL protect Taiwan. It IS in our interest to protect Taiwan because they are free AND HELP TO CONTAIN COMMUNIST CHINA.
You live in a defended Island of Freedom, but your life is part of the main. ... Freedom is indivisible, and when one man is enslaved, all are not free. When all are free, then we can look forward to that day when this country will be joined as one and this great Continent of Asia in a peaceful and hopeful globe. When that day finally comes, as it will, the people of Taiwan can take sober satisfaction in the fact that they were in the front lines for almost six decades. All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Taiwan, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Taiwaner."
Well, 25 countries or so have accepted the sovereignty of Taiwan - including the Vatican as the only European country. This is, because China does not have diplomatic relations with any country that accepts the independance of Taiwan. But fact is, Taiwan IS (not formally) independant. Unfortunately, most states on earth rate economic relations with China higher than the support of a democratic Taiwan.
