Trump: I'd Fire Dan Rather
Newsmax.com ^ | 3/6/05 | unknown

Posted on 03/06/2005 10:35:06 AM PST by beyond the sea

Megabucks real estate mogul Donald Trump, whose patented phrase,"You're Fired," has become the centerpiece of NBC's hit show "The Apprentice," said Sunday that he'd fire CBS News anchorman Dan Rather if he had the chance.

"I would have fired him a long time ago," Trump told "Fox News Sunday." "I would have said, 'Dan, you're fired.'"

The recently remarried gazillionaire went on to elaborate:

"I'm not a big fan of Dan Rather. I don't want to be a fan of Dan Rather. I don't think he's good at the news. I don't think a lot of people think he's good at the news. He was always highly overrated."

Of the Memogate scandal the precipitated Rather's departure this Wednesday from the anchor chair at the "CBS Evening News," Trump said, "It was disgusting the way it was handled by Dan Rather. And I don't know why they're firing other people - he was the head of it. So why aren't they firing Dan Rather?"

The real estate tycoon did admit that he has some personal animus against the retiring newsman.

"He did a report on me that was basically dishonest," Trump told Foxman Chris Wallace "So since then, I don't deal with him."

"He did a report on me that was basically dishonest," Trump told Foxman Chris Wallace.

That statement implicating Rather could have been made by thousands of people in this world.

Dan Rather is a totally delusional old lying creep.

Maybe he'll go down to Texas now and look for the source of those documents (not). Or do we have to wait for Mary Mapes to tell us the source in her book (not again).

****

As one FReeper said yesterday: "Memo Real; Nobody lied" -- chisel that on his tombstone.

Trump has the b--ls to say what most of us agree with, and some of us respond with attacks on him. Wierd.

Folks, if someone you don't like says something reasoned, it's okay to agree and be happy.

Kudos to Trump. He's right on target with his comments. He gave full disclosure. He's visible enough that many people are going to hear our opinion, at least from some quarter.

Good deal.

You're fired.  Did Trump invent the phrase?

Don't believe Newsmax got this right, or if they did, I'm filing patents on the remaining clickes in the English Language starting tomorrow morning.  Maybe I'm missing something.

A patent for an invention is the grant of a property right to the inventor, issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Generally, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States or, in special cases, from the date an earlier related application was filed, subject to the payment of maintenance fees. U.S. patent grants are effective only within the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. possessions. Under certain circumstances, patent term extensions or adjustments may be available.

The right conferred by the patent grant is, in the language of the statute and of the grant itself, “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling” the invention in the United States or “importing” the invention into the United States. What is granted is not the right to make, use, offer for sale, sell or import, but the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling or importing the invention. Once a patent is issued, the patentee must enforce the patent without aid of the USPTO.

There are three types of patents:

1) Utility patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof;

2) Design patents may be granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture; and

3) Plant patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers and asexually reproduces any distinct and new variety of plant.

We make fun of Trump, and he laughs all the way to the bank. I doubt whether he cares if anyone likes him or not. He is secure in who he is. And secure enough to speak out against Rather - the object of some liberals/MSM's affection, adoration, and abominable loyalty. Wish others were as secure in themselves to call a spade a spade.

Yeh, I read that article on another thread here today. I was ready to barf also. I think he was saying he and his wife were struggling on $90.00 a week and he was doing sports play by play to make extra money. He should have stayed in sports announcing. I can hear it now.... Rather: "Maybe it isn't true that that pitcher lost the game, but the essence of his performance was victorious." ;-)

"We make fun of Trump, and he laughs all the way to the bank. I doubt whether he cares if anyone likes him or not. He is secure in who he is."

I agree. I have come to the conclusion that there are too many Freepers who will attack just about anyone, friend or foe. Perhaps in Trump's case, it's jealousy. He's done real well in life, and perhaps some Freepers wish they would have done half as well. A little class envy perhaps? Same kind of attacks have been made on the Martha Stewart threads, and the Charles and Camilla threads. People who don't know them from an Adam's apple, who have never had anything done to them by these famous people, vent their spleens and badmouth them a lot. All I can think is jealousy, the same class envy that we accuse Dems of being guilty of. I thank Trump for saying something negative about Dan Rather, our known enemy. Trump is not a known enemy, and should be left alone, even if he does need a new hairstyle.

The real estate tycoon did admit that he has some personal animus against the retiring newsman.

"He did a report on me that was basically dishonest," Trump told Foxman Chris Wallace "So since then, I don't deal with him."

Media Research Center:
Dan Rather on Bill Clinton:
"I think he’s an honest man."

O’Reilly: "I want to ask you flat out, do you think President Clinton’s an honest man?"
Rather: "Yes, I think he’s an honest man."
    O’Reilly: "Do you, really?"
    Rather: "I do."
O’Reilly: "Even though he lied to Jim Lehrer’s face about the Lewinsky case?"
Rather: "Who among us has not lied about something?"
O’Reilly: "Well, I didn’t lie to anybody’s face on national television. I don’t think you have, have you?"
Rather: "I don’t think I ever have. I hope I never have. But, look, it’s one thing-"
O’Reilly, jumping in: "How can you say he’s an honest guy then?"
Rather: "Well, because I think he is. I think at core he’s an honest person. I know that you have a different view. I know that you consider it sort of astonishing anybody would say so, but I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things."
    O’Reilly: "Really?!?"
    Rather: "Yeah, I do."
    O’Reilly: "See, I can’t. I want my government to be honest across-the-board. I don’t want people lying."
