The parents were probably in bed asleep.

I agree. My sister and I used to slip out of our bedroom window when I was a teenager, and slip back in before daylight.

What a wild youth I had.

What an amazing example of politically correct editing. Not a single reference to the fact that the kids stole the car and killed themselves.

We did the same thing. Somtimes we would "borrow" my dad's '57 Chevy to go to the beach.

Last year we caught our 17 yo son in the act; he "borrowed" my car to go hang with friends; it was 3:00 a.m.

It's not always the parents fault, we gotta sleep sometime.

Before the week is out, there will be lawsuits...

Before the week is out, the "community" will blame the troopers.

How my dad never noticed the hood was warm is beyond me. We 'Borrowed' his el camino several times.

It's not always the parents fault. Teenagers do things. All we did was ride around and go to the beach as well.

It prepared me for some things when I had kids of my own. We always took the keys out of the car. :-)

Hi GS-

"...Sad, but the truth is, there was no realistic hope for an 11 year old and 15 year old who were stealing cars at 1:30AM -- better they died now, than live to commit a bunch of stabbings, rapes, and murders. Thankfully, the innocent victims in car they hit will be okay..."

You speak the truth, but some people can't handle the truth.

The little monsters were very likely in training for bigger and worse crimes in the future...and may have already been running with gangs as is frequently the case. Going down for the dirt nap (when measured as a whole for society) was probably the lowest-impact result. Their names will be forgotten by the start of the next school year. My sympathy is with the poor innocent souls in the car that was hit.

My little darlings know enough not to steal, especially a car, not to attmpt driving if they don't know how nor are licensed to do so. They also know not to hang aorund with other kids who would do these things. There are obviously kids who don't know this and parents who don't teach this to them.

That is a crock and you should be ashamed for saying such a ludicrous thing.

It's odd that they are called "Five points", when, clearly they are five streets radiating for a SINGLE point. They should be called "Five-ways".
But then they'd be Skyline chili, wouldn't they?

They weren't preparing for bigger and better crimes. Right. Some criminals see this as education. They want to learn how to crack a steering column, thwart alarm systems.

I guarantee these kids didn't know that 9x7=63.

So sad.

Anyone seen Bill Cosby?

Not if you stop to consider each of the five corners at the intersection is a point. ;-)

"Before the week is out, there will be lawsuits..."

Your damn right! These kids and their families will expect big payouts from car makers and sleeping families. How dare a family go to sleep you should expect juvenile thugs to take your car and go on a rampage and kill themselves (to hell with the innocent people they kill). And if they are black (just speculating dont know) then they should also expect extra money from former companies that used slaves - hell they should expect us all to pitch in cause you know it wasnt their fault. (sarcasm alert)

Oh please, spare me. I did things like taking my dad's El camino when I was a teenager. Out for joy rides period. I haven't done anything since and I'm over 50 years old.

If the parents didn't know their kids sneaked out of the house and were awakened by that dreaded knock on their door, can you even imagine the horror of losing a child?

Don't know if other passengers in the car they hit are doing ok. What they did by stealing that car was wrong, nothing can change it now, and saying they shouldn't have done it and they wouldn't be dead now will not change the fact that young people have died. Good Lord, have some sympathy for the parents who have lost their children. If you can't do that then you have a problem.

You have the wrong guy. I said nothing about the parents and how they are responsible or irresponsible.

As well, you going to the beach
is different than thugs stealing cars and endangering the lives of police and innocent people.

I would guess that someone with a computer who frequents Freerep doesn't encounter these types too often.

They come in all ages, young and old.

I hope you aren't pro-criminal.

They idea of urban teenagers and pre-teens involved with criminality is ludicrous?

Hey pbrown, in this FR thread last month you were screeching like a "grandmother gone wild" about grabbing guns and roaming the streets looking for possible terrorists you could shoot. Now you're all "offended" with some posters because these inner-city thugs (and PROVEN enemies to society) have bit the dust? That's life in the fast lane and criminals occasionally die when they do the dumb things they do.

If it is any consolation, you will be mourning the deaths of these "angelic little cherubs" MUCH longer than their parents...who didn't want them around interfering with their busy social lives, anyway. It's just some bleach in the gene pool. Just be very happy the innocent people in the other car weren't too badly injured and will recover.

I agree with Blue Jays.

It's just a shame that for a couple of these kids the first wake-up call was death.

I'm not ready to jump all over the parents just yet, though. Kids have been known to sneak out of the house, and be out at all hours without permission.

Who says it was their first wake-up call? I'd be surprised if they didn't have rap sheets already -- especially the 15 year old -- 11 year olds who do crimes in groups tend to get off w/o a record, since the authorities blame the older kids.

A wake-up call is an event that gets your attention in a life-changing way. Since they were still behaving like little juvenile delinquents, obviously they hadn't had one yet.

That's what I meant. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out they'd been in trouble with the law before. Not at all.

Yes, how unfortunate for the owners of the stolen car and the people in the car that was hit. As for the kids in the stolen car, how unfortunate that they did not have someone to teach them the right way and did not live long enough to find it on their own.

Sad, but the truth is, there was no realistic hope for an 11 year old and 15 year old who were stealing cars at 1:30AM when people write them off at such a young age. Thankfully, the innocent victims in car they hit will be okay. Unfortunatly, the innocent victims (remember they were children) in the stole car did not have proper supervision.
