I don't mind that he had run ins with Republican presidents. What I mind is he didn't equally have run ins with Democrat presidents...thus showing his bias. No politician should get a free pass from the press regardless of party affiliation. Rather, on the other hand is a hack.

'Shoddy, Slipshod' not LIBERAL..?

I thought Shoddy and Slipshod WAS Liberal. What's the difference? Did you ever hear a Liberal candidate whose thinking and ideas were NOT shoddy, slipshod and well....you know?

Well, then how come his shoddy, slipshod mistakes always end up hurting conservatives -- since the very beginning? Just a coincidence?

"shoddy and slipshod," meaning "negligent", as opposed to "liberal," meaning "deliberately deceptive."

He's not a liberally biased journalist because he's not a journalist. He's a hack reporter.

"I think Dan's great strength is also his weakness," Schieffer said. "He was willing to go anywhere, anytime, to cover a story. I think Dan's downfall is that CBS expected too much of him."

Nice try. However, Rather's downfall was that he was a lying leftist who got caught.

wasn't it Gunga Dan that said in an interview with either Hillary or Bill said "if the country could be half as great as you two have been" or something like that. I wish someone could provide a more accurate quote.

Clinton was elected to the Senate from New York in 2000 and is widely considered to be a likely candidate for president in 2008.

"I have a passion for doing this work," Rather said. "Anchoring in television, if you aren't careful, can degenerate into an ego-centered practice. "I've tried my best not to succumb to that. It's not about me, it's about the news, and it's about CBS News…. I have been … their choice and I've been proud to do it, proud to be it … the emblem, the symbol, if you will, of CBS News for quite a long time."

That's not what Walter Cronkite says!

"I've learned to trust the audience," he said.

Well, you've been in tank for ten years; take the hint, Dan.

"The harshest critic could not be nearly as hard on me as I am on myself."

Oh, I don't think so, Dan.

And so the Dan Rather version of the "I am not a crook tour" continues.

And somewhere in the great beyond, Richard Nixon is laughing his butt off.
