Starbucks Coffee Slams Troops In Iraq(Vanity)
E-Mail | March 4, 2005 | Sgt Howard C. Wright

Posted on 03/07/2005 7:33:54 PM PST by The Loan Arranger

"Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support in their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, we should not support them by buying any of their products. As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I believe is right.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support of me, and I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more."

"Semper Fidelis." Sgt Howard C. Wright 1st Force Recon Co 1st Plt PLT RTO

It's crap - this thread should be pulled, and it is irresponsible to promote this tired old urban legend.

This is an urban legend/misunderstanding that has been floating around in various versions since early 2004. See here for Snopes' explanation.

LOL - get the impression it might be a fake?

Old stuff, long debunked. Starbucks had to make a statement denying it.

You should probably ask the mods to delete your vanity, as it's totally false.

Not only is the post a hoax, but my local Starbuck's was collecting donations for the troops at Christmas to send them coffee.

Rumor is false, but Starbucks did have a fiasco when they made a poster based on 9/11 advertising some of their drinks.

I think your friend, although trustworthy himself, was deceived by the email.

Agreed that coffe shops seem like a liberal type establishment, though - not like a cafe with beer for rednecks.

This is an e-mail I just received from someone I trust. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

How come everytime an "email" is posted, the poster says it comes form "someone I trust"????

at the time of this story, all starbucks said was that some of their employees were sending their free ,monthly allotments of coffee beans out to iraq, and never answered the question ....
had a heated discussion with snopes about their acceptance of starbucks statement as "debunking" a myth.---employees mailing their coffe beans out voluntarily is not exactly the same as starbucks incorporated sending out donations.

Nothing personal but I'm so sick of seeing this crap re-posted here over and over again.

Rule of thumb that whatever you get forwarded to you by email (even by a "trusted" friend) is some sort of scam or hoax. Before posting it here, run it through any one of a number of email hoax or "urban legend" sites (such as snopes.com) as it is likely to have already been debunked.

Even better, run a search here on Free Republic. If there was even a grain of truth to this, it would have been disseminated on this site right from the get-go. We don't miss anything around here.
