Clinton assails ``epidemic'' of media sex and violence Wednesday March 09, 2005 By DEVLIN BARRETT Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) Children are suffering from a ``silent epidemic'' of media sex and violence, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton argued Wednesday in calling for closer scrutiny by parents and government of what kids watch and play.

Speaking a day before her husband former president Bill Clinton was due to undergo a follow-up surgery for a heart bypass operation six months ago, the senator argued the public health was threatened by increasingly raw media content. Clinton, D-N.Y., focused her critique on the new media that some parents worry are a bad influence on children: violent video games, the Internet, and sexually explicit television programs.

``This is a silent epidemic. We don't necessarily see the results immediately,'' Clinton said at a forum hosted by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Over time, she argued, the effects of such media-driven desensitization teaches children ``that it's OK to dis people because they're women or they're a different color or they're from a different place.''

The senator took direct aim at one particular video game, Grand Theft Auto, a series popular among players and criticized by parents for its crime spree role-playing.

What a hypocrit! Her husband couldn't keep his pants up in the White House and she's speaking out about it in movies/tv?! My son learned about oral sex from her husband since it was on the tv every night! Clean up your own backyard first Hillary!

My son asked me about five times last night what child molestation is. Michael Jackson's media event is so important to news ratings.

That was actually Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet.

But Bradbury did write a great story.

She went to work for NBC, but I've launched my own small campaign to get Miss Shock and Awe back at Fox.

She may be evil, but she is smart. She's positioning herself as a centrist, and she may get away with it.

Nice pattern--

Moderate stance on abortion, then hard left stance, then rightist stance on sex/violence... Next is going to be standing up for the free speech such media exercises...

You're right. I find myself agreeing with her, although I think her reasons for bringing this subject attention is purely political. But the "Constitution protects porn and violence gang" will take issue, I'm sure.

Her move to the middle to capture the 2008 Dem nomination continues. This is strategy, nothing more.

Lol....this epidemic on TV looks a lot like the epidemic of sex and violence that swept through Washington between 1992 and 2000. The junior senator from NY appeared to condone and accept that real-life epidemic in the White House and other areas of Washington, D.C.

She's becoming more "evangelical" by the minute. She certainly is a populist.

You think she'll admit that her husband set a bad role model and Gore was wrong in commending Ellen Degenerous? I won't hold my breath.

This is rich. After her husband says on national tv that oral sex isn't really sex. Sorry, Senator. You can't have it both ways.

Yes, it is all politics for her. Too bad though, if she really meant it she could do some good in starting the process....but I have no illusions. I am to the point that I do not care if it is a Republican or Democrat who clean-up the airwaves....just someone to have the guts to stand up and call good good, and evil evil.

Parents are in a battle and we are losing. Yes, parents have responsibilities but nobody said they would have to carry out those resp. while a cess pool around them tried to drown their children.

Mrs. Clinton, you can thank your husband for introducing millions of American kids to the concept of oral sex.

According to him, oral sex isn't sex, so all the kids can do it without remorse....your husband didn't have any.

Thanks for everything, you beast.
