A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.
Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.
"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.
"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.
He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."
"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.
Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon
So what would the point be in the military fabricating the story that we all know? I mean, come on, wouldn't you rather hear that we got in an "Old West" style shootout and caught the bad guy? Isn't that better than, "Well we found him in a hole"???
Nope - don't believe it either. Why wait this long to come out with it? Just another weak attempt to discredit us.

No and my brother, a cop met one of the capture tream members because he had carried a patch from his department with him and when he returned he visited them. Not true at all.
They grabbed him out of the hole and gave him greetings from W!
No need to read any further.
good logic
Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon
I have heard of this..dan rather is working on it as we speak..
Second, what is he talking about here: "Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole". What "film of Saddam's capture"? Maybe I'm out of it but I never saw any such film.

Yeah right...
What was your previous screen name before it was banned?
Can't charges be brought up against this idiot?
With his last name, and the fact that he is a "former" marine - I don't believe this. He seems to be trying to glorify saddam's description during capture.
relax, old sport
Just a note to tell you I don't love you anymore.
You kiss and tell and you can consider our engagement off.
P/S ... I'm keeping the pop top ring you gave me, you cheap bastid.
Raw meat for the Kool Aid drinkers.
Yeah...I heard the Elvis is working down at the Stop 'n Go and that Bigfoot was on the grassy knoll. Good grief. You can tell from the guy's name that he is a Lebanese muslim, if he actually exists.
And this Arab expects us to believe that ALL the other soldiers involved in the capture are lying? Not going to happen.
Do you have anything better to waste bandwidth?
Sorry but the soldier who actually went down the hole and captured Saddam was on Fox News with his story - I do believe he was American born Iraqi or something like that - very handsome young man and very proud to tell the real story - this particular article is bs!!
Why the strong emphasis on the national "descent" of each purported soldier? US military guys don't do that. This does not sound credible.
Another fine example of reporting from the Dan Rather/Eason Jordan School of Journalism. It took all of 11 minutes to negatively vette the story.
"in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well,"
That was the shallowest well ever.
Hmmm....I guess we will see if you last.
And your efforts are very much appreciated. I'm giving you the Not Rather award for that. ;)
'Prince Charles wears albatross-feather cloak'
The DUmmies have a thread on this story and believed every word of it. More "proof" of massive right wing conspiracies I guess.

That I can not answer. But attack him for being a weasel, not for being an Arab.
The fact that he identifies himself as Lebanesse and not American tells me what I need to know.
There is nothing in that article that indicates he identifies himself as being Lebanese. Perhaps, because of such an Arab-identifying name, the reporter asked what is heritage was. If it was 1945 and your name was Klaus Wilhelm Himmler, you would have probably been asked if you were of German descent too.
Probably looking to hang out with his buddy Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun and discuss their future in the USMC.
Another lying Muslim!
"Sorry but the soldier who actually went down the hole and captured Saddam was on Fox News with his story - I do believe he was American born Iraqi or something like that"
That guy isn't in the military. He's an Iraqi American who volunteered to be a translator.
Doesn't pass the smell test.
My thoughts exactly.
Excellent work.....
I looked at his other posts. He has one rather unkind to Rush. Maybe he got this story from DU
Some people have heard about it...

See the link above for the actors the military used. See, you can tell it's all fake. /sarcasm off
WHAM.com??????
Any confirmation that this "individual" was ever in the Marine Corps? Considering all the other made-up stuff coming from the Arab world (see Memri.com for details), this could be a simple-minded attempt to rehabilitate Sadaam's image.
I didn't "attack" him.
I discounted his credibility.
It's odd that you are bothered so much by that.
I bet you're one of those DU a**holes (you used the term first) who scream "Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib! Abu Ghraib!" and completely ignore the beheadings and suicide bombings occurring on an hourly basis.
Talk about selective outrage.
The name says it all, and he is full of camel sh-t.NSNR
Thanks - It has been awhile since I saw the interview - I remembered his story and how intelligent and articulate he was (and handsome) but couldn't think back as to whether he was military or not - glad you cleared it up for me.
it was the Army 4th ID that got him!!!
BINGO!!!
"When they captured Saddam outside Tikrit, 4th Infantry soldiers also found $750,000 of the Iraqi leader's stashed cash"
I wasn't aware that our boys were in on that raid. All of the pics I've seen have soldiers with 4th ID patches on their arms.
Excellent.
Any way a person who doesn't have a "friend who would know" can independently verify this? Some DUmmies need to be slapped with it.
