SPRINGFIELD -- Average citizens could carry concealed weapons under two bills that won overwhelming approval in a House committee Tuesday, setting up a rare, full-blown House floor fight over the issue that advocates say will make people safer and critics contend will lead to more gun violence.
The move further buttressed the National Rifle Association's strategy to not only blunt Mayor Richard Daley's push for gun-control laws but to take the fight to him with a frontal assault of its own.
"I'm heartsick," said House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago), a major advocate of gun control. The NRA is on a "rampage" in Springfield, Currie said.

3/5 majority in both the House and Senate, as a 3/5 majority is constitutionally required to implement a pre-emption clause that overrides local ordinances.
I am surprised.
passing pro-gun bills sicken liberals? Great! We need to pass as many as possible then!
Fantastic news. Hopefully we'll get some movement on a national reciprocity bill that's supposed to be coming down the pike.
Self-ping to CCW map.
"The NRA is on a "rampage" in Springfield, Currie said."
Better the NRA than the criminals who prey on the unarmed.
right to carry ping
By the way , could somebody out there give me the phonetic pronunciation of Blago-whatsis name? Thanks in advance--
35 States have concealed carry laws and none of them have experienced an increase in violent crime as a result, yet the left still screams about blood in the streets if it passes. Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I guess the left is proving that they're insane.
too cool fer school! Go Illini

Did you mean "...have experienced
an increase a decrease in violent crime ..."?
Sorry! I misread your statement. You said exactly what you meant to say!
This is good news. I've faced robbers twice in Illinois (once in Chicago and once in Evanston). I wish I'd had the option of being legally armed for protection -- but Illinois doesn't recognize my Indiana permit.

SITE ONE FRIG'N CASE, YOU DEFENSELESS PANDERING JERKS!
Hey the flag for my tag.
I am shocked. I think the last few elections have really ticked off the down-staters (rightfully so!) and they are tired of having Daley run the entire state. Cook County needs to break off and become it's own state.
Cook County needs to break off and fall into Lake Michigan.
good to "see" you're still around!
Yeah, getting slowly back into things, but busy as can be. I penned a column for SAS's latest newsletter about taxing ammo. It was my first foray back in to the activism arena in a LONG time.
Anyone have any updates on this bill? Has it made any progress. It would be great to see this pass here in the Peoples Republic of Illinois.
