MEXICO CITY (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that al-Qaida and other terrorist groups are doing everything they can to get into the United States through Mexico and Canada.
Rice, on her first trip to Mexico since taking over at the State Department in late January, echoed concerns raised by government officials in congressional testimony last month about the motives of the terrorist network blamed for the Sept. 11 attacks of 2001.
"Indeed we have from time to time had reports about al-Qaida trying to use our southern border but also trying to use our northern border," Rice said. "There is no secret that al-Qaida will try to get into this country and into other countries by any means they possibly can."
Recent intelligence from current investigations, detentions and other sources suggests that al-Qaida has considered using the Southwest border to infiltrate the United States, according to testimony from a top Homeland Security Department official last month before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Rice is off to a promising start on this issue. Lessee what kind of solutions she offers.
Gee, perhaps the Minuteman brigade is not a bad idea after all, huh, leftist PC ahoes.
No kidding....who woulda thunk it.
Seems to me there are folks that have been screaming about securing our borders for quite some time now. Perhaps we could do something about it, other than just paying it lipservice.
1000's of poor Mexicans flood across every day, but the well financed Islamofacists are only TESTING?
I dont think you can overstate the importance that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism will have to the rest of the world in the century ahead especially if, as seems possible, its most fanatical elements get their hands on nuclear and chemical weapons and the means to deliver them against their enemies.
Ronald Reagan, 1990
All Al Queda has to to is buy the "coyotes" and drug smugglers a few drinks and they will know all they need to know.
Gee, you think?
Wow....I sure feel comfortable knowing they now admit they have a problem.
I wonder how Al Queada will vote down the road...lol
I do believe that this statement from Ms. Rice is sort of like closing the door after the horse has left the barn.
Possibly the administration is understanding this issue & how POed the people are. Probably it will be the single most important issue in 2008. The pubbies better get on it & quick or they are going to lose it to the Hildabeast.
nah, they can just hint they might vote (R) down the road in 20 years or so
or they will cut grass on the cheap maybe.
anyone here advocate turning away border jumpers be a wascally wacist....dadgummit!
Don't hold your breath on her "solution". It would mean having to repudiate Free-Trade if you really wanted to secure our nation.
Repudiate NAFTA, you mean?
Not exactly a test one need study much for is it? Just pick up your "How to be an Illegal Immigrant" manual from the Mexican consulate, walk right across our borders, and have the people that are supposed to be keeping you out drive you to the bus station to reach your destination of choice.
Impossible. The Arizona Border is tighter than a drum.
Dubya Bush has ordered and implimented stringent border security and made it a top priority since 9/11.
(The above is a MAD Magazine parody)
Reagan's record regarding responding to terror was worse than Carter's. It's the black mark on his presidency.
Horse. Barn door.
A very supported idea in deed!
I like this development.
