Mrs. Topper: "Topper! That chair just floated out of the room!

Topper: "Well, my dear, it's a wing chair, after all...!"

Calm down, nobody is insulting you just because you believe in ghosts, or vampires, or that martians are invading Earth. It is just that most of us do not believe that. Oh, by the way have you seen Elvis lately?

Then I would suggest to submit them to scientific examination by experts. I am not the one to prove anything to. The scientific community is whom you need to be speaking with. Scientific proof of such things would be headlines around the world. Submit that evidence to experts. Is it repeatable? do they always occur?

The burdon of proof is on you. It is an extraordinary claim no question. So extraordinary that no one in history has been able to prove it yet to the scientific community. If such things exists outside of the human imagination, It should be observable, measurable, quantifiable, repeatable, provable.
Everything else has to go through a scientific process.
Why should these things be held less accountable?

Were the photographs in a controlled environment? Was the equipment and film lab quality? Is there a propensity by those interpretating the data to color the conclusion with their own beliefs? Was it a digital or film camera? Does only one capture an image and not the other? Why?
Or is it a phenomenon like jesus in the tortilla. The human brain seeks face like features. In clouds, trees, etc.

Scientific process can easily prove say a rare animal exists. Because the evidence is overwhelming.
A picture alone may not prove it completely. Perhaps make it likely. But fur, bone, blood, teeth, fossil record, DNA,footprints, build a case of overwhelming evidence.
We build and learn new tools every year to study the world around us.

Things halfway across the universe can be proven to exists because we can measure them with scientific apparatus in multiple ways. Each backing up the other.

There is *no reason* why ghosts or anything similar should get to escape this process as a burdon of proof.

Balderdash. Poppycock. We don't need science to verify or deny anything.

Truth is, there are things out there that defy explanation. People like James Randi and Phillip Klass refuse to believe that because their minds are made up, and they don't wish to be confused with facts. But for those who have witnessed such phenomena, experienced it for themselves, they know better.

For people like yourself, the truth will always be just out of your reach until you open your mind to that very real possibility.

I'd forgotten that. Of course, I was about 5 or so when I used to watch that show. Leo G. Carroll as Cosmo. He wasn't as much fun later bossing around Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin.

"We don't need science to verify or deny anything."

Hmmm, flown on any "holisticly engineered airplanes" lately?

Science is why we have things like Pentium processors and cures for disease. Why we have satellites above and this very Internet we both are using right now.
The human race most definitely needs science.

Deny perhaps not. Verify, for me absolutely Yes.
The claims are *so fantastic* and mind-blowing, they demand verification.

I cant go by what someones unprovable experience is. There are too many logical explanations that are far more likely and plausable then a fantastic assertion such as ghosts. People believe and see a great deal of things that simply arent there all the time. Afterall, almost half this nation thought Kerry would make a good president and believed he would win. ;) Hey, I promise you, the day scientific peer-reviewed evidence is produced. I will be right there reading everyword and contemplating the implications of what it all means. Until then, the burdon is on those who make the fantastic claims.

If you believe and you feel its that important. Start working on the proof. Not just stories and personal experiences. Proof would be one of the biggest storys the human race has ever known with massive implications.

It is a huge red flag to me or any skeptical person when people give excuses why the scientific process cant be applied to their claims whatever they may be.

"Truth is, there are things out there that defy explanation."

One more thought on this. Yes I agree. We dont know everything of course. There are mysteries. But over time myteries get solved. Science has explained away hundreds of thousands of old beliefs. People that the stars were gods or campfires once. We know better now because someone studied and built apparatus to learn what they were.

Why should anything else be treated differently?

We dont know how and why ball lightning forms.
Its a rare phenomenon. It could have seemed like a ghost, god or entity to people that saw it. The only way to understand what something is is to study it. Not project our pre-conceived biased human beliefs on it.
I do not think that some people who make extraorindary claims are lying. I know that they believe it. I question their explanation.

I am not saying ghosts do or don't exist, but man you sure have a way of sounding like trailer park trash! What a bad attitude you have displayed in this thred, first with jumping ugly with anyone with an opposing viewpoint, then saying you are right and do not need any proof to porove you are right!

FRee Republic is a discussion forum. Why do you stifle "discussion"? A more subtle approach might gain you some converts and help keep the blood pressure in check at the same time!

Have a nice day!

For the third time, spend a weekend at a house that is reputedly haunted. I am sure you will get all kinds of proof.

Then you know where I stand, which is by what I said. I don't care if you like it or not. But for you to refer to me as "trailer park trash" simply because I am sick and tired of seeing people who believe in ghosts or UFOs ridiculed is abuse, pure and simple.

You refer to people as jackasses and don't like my trailer park trash comment? You start with the venom and also ping the admin moderator? Kind of weak, eh, dude?

BTW, I came to this thread because of an interest in ghosts. I don't like seeing freepers trash out freepers like you have. Your comment was out of line, and if anyone should receive admonishment from the mods, it's you, chum!It is a discussion forum, accept it.

I believe you are experiencing what the DUmmie leftists do all the time, fling insults and name calling to anyone who doesn't see life their way.

Have noticed this getting outta hand lately on FR.

Lib-labeling is the domain of the Left, when a FReeper starts this up, you can safely assume:

a) A slick troll

b) A closet leftist

c) A long-time FReeper, assuming the role of Assistant General Manager

A non-scientific survey indicates b) is the bigger problem here. Follow their posts, check their homepages.

Perhaps the Admins will take note of this a little more in the future. Hang in there, don't name call & report the problem. Problem continues or gets worse? Time to shift to a better forum for your needs....still a FRee country.

And if the things I am saying don't apply to you, don't worry about it.

I rather like how you think this is a "discussion board" that means people should be allowed to imply those who believe in things that exist beyond science and explanation are crazy, stupid or both....but by golly don't you dare call them a jackass! No siree bob!

"the burdon is on those who make the fantastic claims."

Being more the scientist, can you(or anyone) prove "How" or "Why" the "Big Bang" happened? I only ask because it sure SEEMS like a fantastic claim.

It is a theory. It could be wrong. It is fantastic considering that humanity has pondered such things a very short time really. But it is arrived at using the best we can do right now, the best instruments, the best minds, and using the scientific process which is the best tool we have to explain anything so far. The cosmic background radiation that the big bang theory is based on is an observable measureable verified phenomenon. Some of the static on a blank TV screen is caused by that radiation.

Yes, I watched the Nova special about static on my TV as evidence of the Big Bang...

but still, Science has NO IDEA what came before the event they call the Big Bang...No idea why, no idea how, maybe some idea of when..

...if one is suppose to BELIEVE in something that is still so fantastic and unknown...why is it SO outragous to believe there are many things existing that are not able to be proven by humans' science?
