Democrats Turn to Pro-Life Candidates in Order to Win
SeaMax News ^ | 3/13/2005 | Fr. Michael Reilly

Republicans like Christie Whitman who think that the Republican Party is too pro-life ought to consider what the other side is doing.

While witless Republicans drone on about the need to nominate pro-abortion candidates, Democrats who learned the lessons of 2004 and 2002 are looking to nominate pro-life candidates for the Senate in 2006.

In Pennsylvania, Governor Ed Rendell strong-armed pro-abortion candidate Barbara Hafer out of the race to give pro-life Democrat Bob Casey a clear shot at Republican Senator Rick Santorum. Senator Santorum is also pro-life.

In Rhode Island, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has recruited pro-life Rep. Jim Langevin to run against pro-abortion Republican Senator Lincoln Chaffee. Early polling indicates that Chaffee is one of the most vulnerable Senators in the nation for 2006. Hungry for a win, Democratic officials even tried (unsuccessfully) to convince pro-abortion Democrat Matt Brown to exit the race to clear the way for Langevin.

According to Steven Ertelt of Lifenews.com, pro-abortion groups are not amused. "It is a problem when leading Democrats publicly recruit candidates who do not share the core values of the party," whined former NARAL president Kate Michaelman to MSNBC. So pro-abortion groups are rushing money to Matt Brown in Rhode Island and are hoping that Chris Heinz (son of Teresa Heinz Kerry and the late Senator John Heinz) will challenge Casey for the nomination in Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) told MSNBC that, "This is not a positioning on [abortion] one way or the other. It's about winning.”

So when the Democrats finally acknowledge that their extreme pro-abortion position has cost them at the polls, Christie Whitman writes a book suggesting that the Republicans should take the position that the Democrats are reluctantly abandoning.

Expect Christie’s next book to be a collection of her favorite recipes.

And Hatellary Rodhmaster is doing her best (and the BM-big media- is aiding at every turn) to redefine herself as 'not so pro-abortion' ... democrats are liars and thieves. when they pretend to be pro-life, they are doing just that, spewing fairytales. OTH, the guy to run against Rick IS against 99.99% of abortions and he'll be the democrap's test case in 2006.

It was Casey's pro-life Dad whom they wouldn't let speak at their convention a while back ...

I hope people aren't fooled by any of this. Democrats will tell any lie and pull any trick to get power back. It won't be safe to vote for any Democrat until the Congress limits the power of the Supreme Court to legislate on anything, especially the abortion issue.

A pro-life Dem replacing Chafee would be an upgrade. Just get him to commit on supporting pro-life SCOTUS picks.

Snaggle tooth should consider why she was railroaded out of the cabinet.

Then perhaps she should make a choice, am I Conservative? Or am I wishy washy? Or am I a Liberal?

At least it might increase the chance of a real Republican winning the seat 6 years later.

Hillary wants to elect pro-life RATS in the Senate so she can use them to tour the Red States and tell the voters that Hillary is not "pro-abortion".

As a true pro-lifer, until the GOP actually gives us a constitutional amendment even if it gets voted down, we'll be able to see who supports the rights of the unborn and who supports the forces of darkness.
I'll be willing to switch to the rats to save the unborn babies. We won't let the RINO's treat us the same way the Rats treat the Blacks.

Conservative democrat trumps liberal republican........I would vote for a real pro-life, pro-gun, pro-religion, pro-military, pro-family democrat any day over a liberal republican. Let the democrats try to seat as many of such folks as they can, to their own detriment.......

We need more Zell Millers and fewer Lincoln Chafees, fewer Arlen Spectors, and fewer Jim "turncoat" Jeffords.

But, they must be real conservatives and cannot be friends of Hillary, like Harry Reid. Friends of Hillary cannot be trusted......... any one who thinks the Clintons can be trusted, cannot be trusted.

Anyone ever see a coin with heads on each side?

It's used by con artists to trick and cheat.

Don't all these Democrats change their opinions about abortion after winning anyway? Kucinich did and so did Al Gore to name a few. Who is to say that the "conservative" Rhode Island Democrat doesn't?

Its been a long time. I can count the number of pro-life democrats on my hands.

They mentioned Lincoln Chafee in the article. I think I saw him stabbing Bush and the GOP in the back this morning when he said he did not win a mandate.

I didn't say "conservative", I said real conservative. I didn't say exactly who in particular I would vote for, by name. What I said was that I would gladly vote for a real conservative. Anyone who votes for anyone, without checking them out deserves what they get.

You make a very good point, but that was not the direction I was going in my reply.

I wouldn't vote for a republican just because he/she says he/she is a republican.........I won't vote for a conservative just because he/she says he/she is a conservative.

RINOs dare to tread where Democrats have second thoughts.

That is a good point. You can also add Mayor Daley, Dick Gephardt and Ted Kennedy to that list. However, usually the trick is pulled when the bloke who needs to get a statewide seat has some sort of national aspirations (e.g. Gephardt, Gore, Kuchinich). I don't think that this Rhode Island Dim has that. In any event Chafee is worth getting rid of. Sometimes you have to shoot your own dogs. (Example: I worked against Lowell Weicker years ago and actually voted for Lieberman, one of the few times I voted Democrat. He was DEFINITELY an upgrade. Unfortunately Weicker punished us by becoming governor of my old home state. I moved out when I got the chance.)
