I heard about that! A Scanner Darkly. I didn't know it was animated. Zemeckis is making an animated Beowulf.

I've seen the trailer, I think you can find it on Aintitcool. Looks very much like some of the stuff in Waking Life. I'm not into animation, but if I must I prefer traditional over CGI.

Half a decade into the 21st century, Hollywood’s self-congratulation on race is just plain weird…

Self congratulation? Yes, but what about?; the obvious subtext is:

"The Academy is very racist - until today."

Put me down in the "sheer torture" segment. I could not finish the film. I know others who loved it but, FWIW, to me it seemed like something I used to hear getting stoned in the 70s in college talking about the "ironic angstful meaning of life."

My favorite consumer review of Lost in Translation is:

"Two spoiled people wander around Tokyo for a couple of days in complete boredom and then go home."

Another said, "Halfway through the movie, I asked the man next to me if he was carrying a pistol because I wanted to borrow it for a few seconds to put in my mouth to blow my brains out, the movie was so boring."
