I have always liked what Abe Lincoln said about his ancestry.
"I don't know who my grandfather was, and I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be."

Yes, and we have, as I recall, 95% to 97% commonality with chimpanzees, as well. I read somewhere that the genetic difference between an human and a chimpanzee is less than that between an African elephant (Loxodonta africana) and an Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) which a lot of people can't tell apart.

It all came from the eugenics movement. A lot of people noticed that you could improve a particular breed of horses or steer or dogs or whatever by selective breeding and the breed was then strengthened for whatever it was bred to do. Those scientists back then just wondered what would happen if the same selective breeding techniques were applied to humans. That's what they started out studying, what they ended up doing was stuffing whole categories of people into the ovens at Auschwitz. No good came of it.

I'm unwilling to register at the site on vague principle but I think I can attest to the fact that ethnicities vary in their phenotypes. I have family members who are Japanese, Chinese, Fillipino as well as African American and about a dozen different European ethnicities, Jews and gentiles. We are a varied and mixed lot. Yes I think I can distinguish Chinese from Japanese but some individuals in each population, due to geography and politics are often a mix. Within each population are individuals who closely resemble another group.
It's usually a problem depending on appearances and it strengthens to point that, underneath we are all pretty much the same.

What barriers?
A 'barrier' might, somehow, keep SUBS apart, but it would NOT cause the main to split to begin with.

"Ahh, says whom?" Says genetics. Engage your brain for a bit and look at the numbers world-wide. The number of inter-racial marriages/rapes/liasons is MINISCULE compared to the base population(s) of the four anthropological racial groups. The ONLY places where even slight mixing is taking place is in North and South America. In the rest of the world, it just ain't happening to any statistically significant degree. How many Chinese are marrying Caucasians or Blacks?? FAR less than one in a million.
The reason that mixed-race individuals get noticed is because they are RARE AS HEN'S TEETH.

Yes I think I can distinguish Chinese from Japanese
I thought so too and I did pretty well, but not perfect. Try it.

Wait a minute. Do you consider ethnicities such as Asian, Caucasian and Africans as races? No wonder you're so wrong. Neanderthal was a separate race. We're all one race, the human race. Homo Sapien.

"Do you consider ethnicities such as Asian, Caucasian and Africans as races? No wonder you're so wrong. Neanderthal was a separate race. We're all one race, the human race. Homo Sapien." Your political correctness (or your ignorance) is showing. Neanderthal was a separate SPECIES, as is Homo Sapiens--neither is a race. Mongoloids (NOT "Asians", as Indian subcontinent folks are Caucasoids), Caucasoids, Negroids, and Australoids are RACES, not by my definition but by the definition of the science of anthropology. Please learn and use language correctly.
