Monday, March 14, 2005 7:03 a.m. EST Clinton Sought Bin Laden 'Beheading'
Ex-president Bill Clinton tried to persuade Saudi Arabia to behead Osama bin Laden while trying to arrange a deal in 1996 to have the terrorist kingpin extradited from the Sudan.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday:
"In the spring of 1996, the government of Sudan offered to deliver Osama bin Laden [then living in Khartoum] into U.S. custody. The Clinton Administration was aware of the threat bin Laden posed, but it worried it didn't yet have sufficient information to indict him on terrorism charges in court. Instead, the U.S. sought to have the Saudis take bin Laden and behead him." In Feb. 2002, Clinton said he was personally involved in negotiations with the Saudis.
"I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, 'cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato," he told a New York business group.
While the ex-president made no mention of any plan to behead bin Laden, he did admit to turning down a Sudanese offer to have him shipped to the U.S.
"At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America."
In an October 2001 interview, Clinton national security advisor Sandy Berger hinted that the beheading plan was part of the Clinton administration's renditioning policy, where terrorists are sent to third world countries with the expectation that they will be tortured - or worse.
"In the United States, we have this thing called the Constitution," Berger told the Washington Post. "So to bring [bin Laden] here is to bring him into the justice system. I don't think that was our first choice. Our first choice was to send him someplace where justice is more 'streamlined.'"
Saudi Arabia, where bin Laden was born, follows Islamic Law, which sanctions the beheading of criminals and other offending citizens.
Oh puh-leeze! There is nothing that this useless man won't try to manufacture a positive legacy. The problem is, anything he tries is so laughably false.
I don't believe the story is factually correct. Clinton did try to have Saudi Arabia extradite bin Laden from Sudan and tried for terrorists acts and treason. However, the spineless Saudis refused to accept him because they knew beheading would be the outcome if he were convicted. They were afraid of the possible social upheaval because of his strong connections to many in the royal family and the high end business community.
Lets see if I get this..Cliton had no proof of OBL comploicity, but he wanted to have the Saudis kill him?
Well, Toon can't claim that he, Toon, wanted to kill UBL since Toon refused to rescind EO 12333.
Clinton used Unocal to fund the Taliban to the tune of $700 million. I don't buy a word this slug and his cohorts have to say.

Boris Yeltsin & Hillary ;-)
Clinton will say anything to get in the news.
What's next: "I personally tried to get the Atlanta judge killer put away for the rest of his life. I knew he was going to hurt somebody."
"Yeah, I'd'a gotten Bin Laden. I'd'a marched right into that there Afghanistan an' made him squeal like a stuck pig. Ya know, like I wuz doin' t'Monica at th'time. Yeeehaw!"
Hmm. One problem I am having with the story is that Clinton, Albright, et al. claimed that the could not take UBL because they could not effectively charge him with crimes. The other problem I have with it was the affinity Clinton has with oppressive regimes. Not unlike his pal Carter.
The track record to defend the rule of law and western civilization just isn't there and won't ever be there.
LOL! I guess that information got lost in his socks :)
What a load of bul-oney! When will the American public and media see him for the lying sleeze he is?
If Clinton said it, it is a lie. That is all.
These liars can't keep their pants up, their sox up, or their stories straight.
>> After all, Clinton was always interested in getting a little head. <<
LOL!! Thanks. It always good to start the day with a laugh.
...should read Boris Yeltsin & Bill
The best thing to do is ignore him. He can't stand it when he is not the center of attention. That's even harder for him than if someone in the room didn't like him (which is plenty hard for him).
I cringe when I hear this, recalling what he was doing when discussing Bosnian troop deployment with a US Senator
NewsMax attributes this to the WSJ, not Clinton. Even Clinton did not have the gall to float that whopper. Of course, you wonder who the WSJ attributed it to? Maybe it was just a letter to the editor, or something.
Still trying to rewrite the ole legacy, huh, Bill/Sandy.
Sad, but it is set in stone: Lewinsky and Impeachment.
[Now, why the heck do the Bushes keep hanging all over ole Bill?]
Yes, and it's bad for President Bush to send terrorists to foreign countries for interrogation, but it was OK for President Clinton to send OBL to Saudi Arabia for beheading.
Sorry President Clinton....this will be your legacy....nothing you can say or do will change that fact....you decided to babysit our country rather than lead....the price we paid for your presidency was 9-11.....

then Madeleine saw no evil, so Sandy Berger said, 'I'm evil.'"

Berger purloined all draft revisions of a key critique of the government's response
to the millennium terrorism threat, a document that detailed Administration knowledge
and inaction regarding al Qaeda presence in the U.S. in 1999
and 2000. Stolen were crucial notes in the margins of these drafts
which reveal the thinking and agendas of the
Clinton Administration relating to the mounting terrorist threat.

"Mr. Berger, calling Mr. Sandy Berger. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Please. This is urgent.
We can take out Osama, now. Please answer!!! We have him in our sight."
Berger-Burglar: "Nope. Forgetaboutit. No big deal. Bill and I are too busy watching the West Wing on TV."

who chewed me out for not having a national security adviser (on the West Wing).
So I opened the next season with Anna Deavere Smith as the national security adviser" -
On second read of the article I'm now convinced that x42 is distracted with something.....He didn't mention one time about how much money he is making and how much tax he pays.
"Hey Hillary...Check it out!!! The MSM bought this bullsh!t story!!!!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!"
You are right...where is the outrage? Bush supposedly sends confirmed terrorists to other countries to be tortured (actually sending them back to their country of origin) and the MSM screams foul. Bin Laden had committed no crime against the US at the time, at least according to their account, and they wanted to send him to the Saudis for beheading...and the MSM seems to want to give credit to Clinton. Do I even need to ask...what is wrong with this picture?
"A few years ago, then-US President Bill Clinton wrote then-Philippine President Erap Estrada to find ways to stop the war in the Southern Philippines, particularly to arrange reasonable means by which the hostages kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf Group could be freed.
Estrada said that he could not accede to the request for the letter was a bit late and he already ordered the military to continue its massive offensive against the Abus. His reasoning had to do with his outrage at the ruthless manner the Abus were beheading the kidnapped victims. And though the US publicly adhere to the policy of no ransom and no negotiation with kidnappers, Clinton was not pleased by Estradas obstinate stance. "
The only "be heading" the Prez was interested in at the time was in the bathroom of the Oval Office.
Clinton was too busy with Monica and a different kind of be-"heading".
Bubba doesn't have to worry about rehabiitation. The Bushes have it all worked out for him.
