Assít AG Favors Arresting Jews Without Trial as Expulsion Approaches

The government’s Assistant Attorney general, Shai Nitzan, said that it might be appropriate to keep Jews under arrest without indictment or trial as the date for executing the government’s plan to expel Jews from their homes in the Gaza region approaches.

The procedure for arresting people without due process rights of indictment and trial, known as administrative detention, has been considered a measure to be used only for jailing suspected terrorists who pose an immediate threat to the country.

Administrative detention has also been used on rare occasions against Jewish citizens, persons who were deemed dangerous because of their extremely radical views or activities on the right or the left.

As the expulsion approaches fears are rising that the government might imprison hundreds or thousands of Jewish citizens without providing them with due process rights. Nitzan limited his support for using administrative detention as a means of quelling opposition to the expulsion plan, in what he termed radical cases only.

“I’m not saying that there’s no possibility of administrative detentions,” said Nitzan, “but they will not be determined by public hysteria, but by the material brought before us,” by the security services.

Nitzan was speaking before the Student Union at the Hebrew University.

If only Israel would give up half her land, making it jewridden, then, THEN there would surely be peace with the arab.

Hey, they could set up relocation camps or "concentration" camps, for recaltrant Jewish settlers.

I wonder if they thought of that?

The sarcasm tag is not merely for the sarcasm-challenged, but also serves to protect me in the unlikely event that I am nominated for a federal judgeship (very unlikely since I no longer practice law). Without the sarcasm tag, some Dan Rather type who figured out who I was could truthfully say that I proposed concentration camps for recalcitrant settlers, and I would have to defend myself by pointing out that the quote was taken out of context.

They can still take it out of context, but when exposed the bad faith and fraud become clear.
