Former Giuliani administration official Russell Harding, whose father was a city political powerbroker for decades, pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing more than $400,000 in city money to fund his lavish lifestyle and to possessing child porn.
Harding is the son of former Liberal Party boss Ray Harding, and brother of former Deputy Mayor Robert Harding.
As president of the city's Housing Development Corp., Harding, 40, skimmed agency funds to pay for personal meals, spa treatments, movie videos, computers, and trips to vacation spots such as Vancouver, Hong Kong, San Diego and Las Vegas.
Harding also pleaded guilty to using city money to pay for a pal's bachelor party, another friend's birthday party at the Four Seasons restaurant, and gifts and personal meals for himself and buddies.
"Russell Harding stole from [the corporation] to give himself perks usually afforded a celebrity, not to a government official," said city Department of Ivestigation Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn.
During the financial probe, investigators discovered a movie file and 10 still images of child porn on Harding's computer.
He pleaded guilty before Manhattan federal Judge Lewis Kaplan via closed-circuit TV from a psychiatric prison in Butner, S.C.
Despite the mental-health treatment, Harding was fit to stand trial, Kaplan said.
At sentencing June 27, Harding faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
