House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."
"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.
Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."
"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.
Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.
But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."
The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.
DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
Well, I certainly hold Judge Greer in contempt.
This guy is an arrogant b@stard.
Greer is a classic judicial tyrant, one of tens of thousands of these monsters who have stolen our democracy. We need to re-establish the Constitution and restore representative government.
DeLay is an American hero.
I only wish I could have heard it live.
The proper charge is attempted murder.
>>>DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
That is spot on...
Don't mess with Texas Tom!
What is the name of that murderous lawyer?
He is the poster boy for what is wrong with the judiciary in this nation.
That lawyer's assertion that those who are doing their best to save Terri's life are "Stalinists" has to be the most insane comment I've ever heard.
It is about time somebody in Congress started taking their constitutional job responsibilities seriously. The Black Robe Gangs have been running this nation for years.
Just like the "Constitutional option" for judicial nominations, don't just threaten it, DO IT! Make him accountable to Terri Schindler, her parents, and the rest of sensible God loving Americans.
Yeah right, and you'll also use the Nuclear option against the RATS...what a joke!
Well, at least we know where Rep. DeLay stands on states rights issues.
I wouldn't have been so civil.
He called Felos evil!!!!
Thank you Tom, thank you!!!!!!
Felos.
This I've gotta see. If DeLay does this, I'll eat my nonexistent bowler hat.
Yes...me too...I find him to be highly contemptible.
Now it's getting personal with Congress and the judge. Maybe this will get the job done, and let Terry keep her life.
Of course, if we respected "states rights," blacks would still be picking cotton on Massa's farm.
What worries me is Terri will be without food or water until this whole thing is settled...time is ticking...ticking...ticking.
With all that has happened today, I wonder if God will ever Bless America again....sometimes it seems we don't deserve it.
However, DeLay is smoking crack if he thinks Greer can be held in contempt. There's a major separation of powers issue, not to mention that the judicial branch would the one who would be asked to adjudicate the issue. It's not as if Congress can vote to throw someone in jail.
I normally adore everything Tom DeLay does, but he's letting emotion instead of logic speak here. It's an empty threat.
I'll believe it when I see it. So far, DeLay and friends are 0 for 3, when it comes to taking real action.
Alright. Mr. Delay. You did the right thing, after all, and in a timely fashion. It's on Greer, and entirely on him, at this point.
In another thread, in reply to some Stormfront-type, I was put in mind of a group that seems mysteriously absent. The Special Olympics people. Mr. Stormfront called Terri, retarded. Well, she is brain damaged. And where are the Special Olympics people rushing to her defense? Frankly - what are you Ah-nold, Mr. Special Olympics 'ambassador'. Delay did right. What about you?
Greer is quite the norm. Many times, only the permanent retirement of a judge allows a lawyer to present new evidence in a case where the convict is innocent. Judges will never admit being wrong and will never budge an inch.
And Gore would be President if the Florida Supremes had their way. Some people on here carry States Rights too far IMHO! This is one of those!
The only man in DC who never wavers!
Felos is Michael Schiavo's lawyer. He is a worm.
So farb all we've seen from the Republican congress is talk. Nuclear option...talk. Terri Schiavo...talk. Cutting the deficit...talk. And that includes DeLay.
Glue some lynx fur on Terry and declare her federally protected. It's been done before to usurp states rights by the feds.
Take this a step further and ask yourself how this could happen to the liberals.
Talk is cheap Delay. And while you're at it, you may want to start looking at other judical monkeyshines.
National Congress/House may hold the Judge in contempt, etc., but they can't do anything about his verdict. His verdict is a state matter.
Unless a Federal court intervenes or possibly the state Governor, little else can be done. The state Legislature can possibly intervene and overrule the judge.
If she dies, have the judge indicted for 1st degree murder, and have him prosecuted with the death penalty.
that is an insult. to WORMS
poing
I think the rules are a little different if the contempt reults in someones death.
or his electibility
"That lawyer's assertion that those who are doing their best to save Terri's life are "Stalinists" has to be the most insane comment I've ever heard."
Michael Shiavo had some choice words for the Congressmen who tried to save Terri, words and phrases applicable to him.
Today has been a horrible day, with Terri and little Jessica. I just got home from taking my cousin to her cancer traeatment, she's become partially paralyzed this last week from her cancer pressing on her spine. I was hoping for goods news when I got home. Actually, it's been a rotten month, a rotton year really. There's an evil spirit prowling about. Two other friends have had major health problems this month, and one of my elderly friends lost his wife, son and best friend in one month. My heart breaks for them all.
Greer is a representative of the FL Bar board of Governors. His arrogance speaks volumes.
The Board of Governors did a paper vote to prevent the family law section from lobbying to end the ban on homosexual adoption BUT the lawyers of the family law section did it anyways.
Felos is a fruitloop. He would NEVER accept a compromise because of his own agenda of right to die. Felos only represents Felos.
Agenda lawyers like him are a huge problem now exposed.
consequences should flow for both Felos and Greer. in spades.
Brian Gene Nichols missed his calling by a few days didn't he.
If she die, the entire Schivo, Greer, and Felios cartel should be charged with first degree murder and tampering with a federal witness.
The Governor can intervene? Didn't know that...I'm not up to speed on constitutional law, at all. What are the Governor's options and are they feasible?
