I suggest that the Vatican apologize ...

... just as soon as Islam apologizes for the taking of Constantinople and dozens of other Christian countries. As soon as they apologize for all of the hundreds of millions of innocent's blood, staining Islam's hands.

When Islam apologizes for the murders, shootings, stonings, thefts, billions in jizyat dhimmi taxes it's extorted over the years, the amputations, the torture of millions, the Churches/Synagoges/Temples destroyed and converted to filthy mosques, then I suggest the Church apologize.

Once Islam apologizes for the tens of millions of innocent Russians, Chinese, Indians, Africans, Jews, and other non-Muslims which Islam has butchered in the most horrible ways, then shall the Church apologize.

For the millions of false imprisonments, the millions of rapes, millions of lies that Islam has committed over 1500 years.

When Islam apologizes for the murder of thousands of Jews over the last several decades, the tens and hundreds of thousands of black Christians murdered in Sudan and other countries recently and most of all, the 3000 who died on 911, then I hope the Church will apologize.

BUT NOT ONE SECOND BEFORE!!!

Well I was about to post a profound comment, but I do believe you have summed up my opinion quite adroitly. The Scum bags !!!

a Crusade Cross and a serpent swallowing a Muslim. Some people find it aesthetically pleasing.

Are you sure that isn't depicting an attempt to use the power of the Cross to drive the Muslim BACK into the Serpent, his father, from whom he is crawling forth into the world?

Why the hell do people care for their ancestors from hundreds of years ago???

Because they feel that they can use it to justify their actions in the future.

Here is an excellent telling of the defense of Malta by LaValette from an attack and siege by Suleiman's thugs under Mustapha Pasha in 1565:

http://www.sspx.ca/Angelus/2004_October/Malta_Knights.htm

One particularly cool passage that explains why the Crusades still resonate:

"In an offensive act of cruelty, he ordered the bodies of the knights to be set apart from the common soldiers. Their heads were struck from their bodies and fixed on stakes overlooking Grand Harbor. The beheaded corpses were then stripped of their mail, nailed to crossbeams of wood in mockery of the crucifixion, and launched onto the waters of Grand Harbor that night.

It was the eve of the Feast of St. John, the patron saint of the Order. Despite the loss of St. Elmo, the Grand Master had given orders for the normal celebrations to take place. Bonfires were lit and church bells were rung throughout Birgu and Senglea. The next morning the headless bodies of the knights washed up at the base of Fort St. Angelo.

To show the Turks that they were not to be trifled with, La Valette gave orders for all Turkish prisoners to be executed and their headless bodies thrown into the sea. To the astonishment of the Turks, the thunder of cannons was heard issuing from St. Angelo. Mustapha discovered that they were firing the heads of the Turkish prisoners! This was not something to be taken as a simple retaliatory gesture; the knights knew Mustapha's anger would know no bounds and that there would definitely now exist no mercy for any Catholic who surrendered. Every knight and every soldier knew that they must fight to the death against these infuriated people."

The crusades were defensive in nature. And the best defense is a good offense. It's working in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon...

So Europe should demand an apology for 150 year Muslim occupation by the Ottoman Empire and the wholesale massacre of entire towns and villages in the 14th to 16th centuries.

The Egyptian Moslems asked the French for help in evicting the Seljuks from the Levant.

I've not heard that -- very interesting.

...and the 9/11 massacres, and the 800 year occupation of Iberia, and the ongoing, 14 century murder and persecution of all non-Moslems...

I think it would be faster just to, well...
