"so-called husband didn't allow the parents to take her home"

because he is evil, eeeeeeevil

or, since his attorney is a big euthanasia guy, mabye this is like Roe v. Wade, maybe Michael is getting something out of serving as their test case poster boy . . .

At least Roe never got the abortion, and is now pro-life. Michael would be an active participant in murder . . .

I've already cancelled the Florida vacation I had planned for later this year. Perhaps I'll pay a visit to Germany instead.

I disagree with this all-or-none type of thinking. The US is not barbaric, Europe is not barbaric. All countries have their good and bad elements. Whatever barbarism there is usually the result of government. Friedrich Nietzsche once said that the state is the coldest monster of them all. He was exactly right.

There is a lesson to be learned for conservatives in this Schiavo debacle, no matter how it ends. It is that the state does not care about us - even if it is run by conservatives. Just because we live in a democratically based country, do not make the mistake of thinking that the government is "us". They are not us.

These people are bureaucrats and politicians who will do anything to keep power and who will hide behind thousands of pages of laws and regulations. They scratch and claw to attain power over our lives but then pass the buck off to others in an endless labyrinth of bureacracy in order to avoid making morally difficult decisions that may hurt their chances of staying in power.

They care more about the law than right or wrong. Well, sometimes the law stinks. Morality is more important than the letter of the law. But morality is an inconvenience to the state, it doesn't want to be bothered. There is something wrong with a country's laws when those laws can take precedence over the the relationship between parents and child, that some ex-husband with questionable motives can legally kill someone like this.

Laws are supposed to serve the people. But laws are increasingly being used to serve the status quo of the established elites, who are primarily concerned with not having their boat rocked. The power elites just want the public to shut up and be content with the bread and circuses of ESPN, soap operas, reality TV, celebrities, and whatever other bullsh*t comes their way.

We are becoming less a nation of laws and more a nation of men, passions, and whimsical government. The Constitution is a dead document. We only obey it selectively and when its convenient. We don't obey it in the way we go to war, the way we allow abortion to be legal, the way the courts legislate from the bench, the way we tax and spend.

But thank God that there are still enough people who care enough to force the government to do one thing right, to actually save a life.

It makes me cringe to agree with you about
Germany having the rescuers and so forth,
but I do. Thanks for making the point.

What is worse is what it will do to our credibility overseas when we talk about freedom and human rights.

Great point...so many fail to understand that there are ramifications here that go way beyond the issue of life and death.

I hear what you're saying.

I do believe it is barbaric to starve a person to death.

We put people in jail for doing it to animals.

German abortion law is also more restictive than US law - in part a result of post-WWII revulsion over Nazi eugenics policies.

my translation is better.

your machine translates "It is important that it leaves the USA"

doesn't distinguish between she and it.

no surprise though, it's just a machine...

"awake coma" is the medical term for someone being awake but in a coma - go figure.

just another sick way to find an excuse for killing the "unworthy" life.

anyone interested in buying "silent green" stocks?

"What is worse is what it will do to our credibility overseas when we talk about freedom and human rights."

LOL! It won't affect our credibility very much. Other countries haven't been taking us seriously in regards to freedom and human rights for awhile. Besides, I thought the opinion of others didn't matter. Don't be such a multilateralist. Do you think we need the permission of countries like France in order to kill an innocent person?

well, it's not all that cut and dry. it never really is, you know. Abu Graib left a stain because the MSM people wanted it to ruin Bush's efforts and image. They would have nearly succeeded. you see, the left hates America and they were looking for a smoking gun from the beginning of Bush's first term. tried telling people Bush stole the election - failed at that. tried telling people Bush lied about the war - failed at that. tried pinning Abu Graib at Bush and co. and failed at that. the left has nothing - left. Bush has a second term and cases like Terri Schiavo are being talked about and the silent majority wakes up and starts raising questions and starts fighting for their morals and beliefs.

America brought the sexual & cultural revolution to the world and America will bring the counter revolution to the world and spread a new culture based on morals and based on faith.

Thanks for the link.

I usually try to translate pertinent stories, but time constraints are playing a factor now, unfortunately.

The machine translation isn't that bad for one to get the gist of the story. When you see an 'it', the machine translated to 'it' what we would translate he or she, where appropriate. Here's the last paragraph in human form.

Schiavo has been laying in a waking coma after a heart attack in 1990 with severe brain damage. Her husband has been fighting against any life-prolonging measures and is arguing that his wife wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive artificially under these circumstances. The legal battle between the parents and her husband have been going on for seven years.

I was happy to see them mention, in the paragraphs above, the possibility of a false diagnosis and that there may have been abuse.

You should let Florida know why you cancelled. I wrote to one of the German newspapers and told them not to go to Florida for vacations, too. What a hole.

it needs to be said again and again.

it's not all Germans or all Americans and so on and so forth.

the true colours of each individual are coming out at times like this

we're all in this together, fighting the same devil machinery called "the judiciary" or "the state apparatschick".

the beast is eating its children now
