Pride or prejudice? Terri's plight...Stop the BS!
Multitudes of postings | 3/26/2005 | self

Posted on 03/26/2005 12:44:12 PM PST by pageonetoo

I am a Christian. I call myself conservative. I vote for Republican candidates, and helped elect (and re-elect) George Bush and his dad, with my vote, and my pocketbook.

I am tired of the people who know what is right. I studied the Bible in a formal setting (Bible college), and have been brought up with the teachings of the church.

Why is this hysteria taking place? Is it because a Florida judge has ruled on a valid law, or that we disagree wth him and that law? Are we taking a biblical approach to this situation? Do we believe there is a God?

People are threatening Michael, like he is the angel of death. He's not. He's a guy that has loved a woman so much that he has taken the abuse of thousands of professing "Christians' who have no real interest, nor an accurate knowledge of the events taking place. I read where he spent years of his life trying to get some help for her. Now, he is a beast, since he has decided to let God have her...

We have portions of both sides' news, and positions being dispensed. We are led to believe, by the "right to lifers", that she is ready to get up and walk. Her parents say she is speaking, but doctors have said that it is not possible, she has no reasoning capability. Nurses eport that he tried to murder her with insulin, tyet, even the cops don't believe them. Of course, your histrionics are going to change her situation...

I don't know. I can't make the decision. I don't want ot be faced with a similar decision (but I have a DNR set up).

I do know that there is only one entity that can change her condition. He is our Heavenly Father. His Son is honored in our corporate memory tomorrow.

I have read of people making comparisons of Terri to Jesus in His sacrificial death. Please spare us that one.

I have seen that people expect the courts to join their delusions about her condition, and fly in the face of that reality when it is face down...

Get a grip.

God is still in control If Terri Schiavo is so important to you, as a believer, you should be spending your time on your knees... not browsing the Internet. God doesn't sign on here...

James 5:7ff-

7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12Above all, my brothers, do not swear–not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned. The Prayer of Faith

13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

There is some cumbersome procedure involved with a contempt of Congress.

If Congress created the rules, they can suspend the rules. Moreover, if they can call 435 representatives back on a Sunday night, they can convene a grand jury and bring that judge up in irons, if necessary.

What we have here is a crisis of will.

I tried to get pregnant while at the same time losing weight because I knew I would gain it while pregnant and didn't want to come out of childbirth with a lot of extra baby pounds to lose.

That's understandable, especially in a society so obsessed with slimness, but is it medically wise?

She had also had some issues when she was younger, before she met her husband. I don't know this for a fact, but other nurses who have been doing a lot of investigating on this have told me that her eating disorder began while living at home and that her husband might have exacerbated it by riding her about getting fat.

That's very possible and I definitely believe he gave her a hard time about her weight. For that alone he's responsible for her present condition.

Bulemia and anorexia patients as a rule tend to have controlling parents. The patient becomes obsessed with her eating because that is the one thing she CAN control in her life. If she also had a controlling husband, then she was a prime target for this kind of eating disorder.

Bob and Mary Schindler seem like pretty strong, tenacious folk so it wouldn't be a surprise if they were controlling with their children but I've heard no one actually say that.

My husband of 30 yrs. and I discussed how he would react in a similar situation. His first answer was he couldn't even consider being with another woman if I were incapacitated. How emotionally involved is this man with his wife when he goes home to the warmth of another woman's bed while his WIFE, till death do us part, lies fighting for life. He is a FORNICATOR. No decent man who really loved his wife would act like this or has the world forgotten how decent men act? So NO, he does NOT love his wife.

I have talked extensively with other nurses about this case. One nurse works in a long term facility that specializes in the care of young people with illnesses they won't recover from. She says it is very common for the spouse of a patient in this situation to move on with the romance part of their life and still care for the one in the nursing home. Just because you don't know it is happening doesn't mean it doesn't happen and isn't quite common.

This whole issue seems to have brought out the worst in people. I just brush it off

I think this issue has brought out the truth about people. After all if you can brush off the murder by starvation and dehydration of a disabled woman in broad daylight, then I imagine you can brush off just about anything.

It's getting really tiresome repeating the facts over and over again. It seems everytime I point out the truth and the initial objector shuts up; another justs takes his or her place and uses the same old argument.

Like it or not; Terri is ARTIFICIALLY kept alive by having a tube directly inserted into her stomach. The natural way is to feed the patient by mouth (in case you don't get it).

A stomach feeding tube is a relatively new invention, and only became common within the past several decades. NEVER in human history has anyone in Terri's condition survived beyond several days - her survival for 15 years is solely due to being kept artificially alive.

Do you understand the difference between DISCONTINUING artificial sustenance and starving someone? One is passive the other active. One is 'letting nature take its course' the other is murder.

If Terri was capable of being fed naturally instead of artificially - if she could swallow and especially chew her food; then discontinuing feeding her is murder. However, since all they've done is discontinue artificially feeding her (in accordance with her wishes btw according to the courts); then there is NO difference between withdrawing a stomach feeding tube from Terri and turning off a heart/lung machine for a brain-dead loved one in an emergency room. Both actions are cessations of artificial sustenance.

Finally, did Christopher Reeve tell his spouse he didn't want to be kept alive? No. Was he able to swallow and eat normally? Yes. Was he cognitive? Yes. Then your comparison is invalid.

Next time, think things through before pontificating - the irrational emotionalism of so many is unbecoming.

That's pretty narrow-minded of you. May I ask WHO TOLD YOU Michael Schiavo said this about his wife? Did you hear him say it or are you merely repeating hearsay?

Furthermore, I find it absurd Michael is criticized for getting into relationships with other women after Terri's accident. What do you expect of a 25 year old guy whose wife is in a similar condition? You expect him to become celibate for the rest of his life? How long exactly must he abstain before he finds approval in your eyes to get on with his life and make himself whole again with another woman especially since he waited over six years? Doesn't he have the right to find happiness? Must he forever be prohibited from having a family?

Or perhaps it's better if he just has sex with Terri while she's in a coma and impregnates her that way?

What a bunch of hypocrites! Not one of us would stay celibate if we were his age and our wives were in a similar situation. And yet these hypocrites condemn Michael for doing the exact same thing they would do!

I remarried slightly over a year after the death of my wife over the objections of my in-laws who expected me to remain celibate. I was in my mid-thirties and wanted to have what I lost. How much more would I want it if I were ten years younger?

And you actually believe your husband? You can't seriously expect a 25 year old man whose wife suffers a simmilar fate to remain celibate forever?

Also, comparing someone who's been married for 30 years to a young man in his mid-20s is an unfair comparison. Your husband probably already enjoys a family, children and grandchildren - what about Michael? Doesn't he deserve a chance of having a family also?

Is it preferrable he just has sex with Terri while she's in that state and impregnates her that way?

Who then are you to condemn him for wanting what all of us want and for trying to become whole again?

WWJD? What would Jesus do, or what would He have us do, in this case? Seek to preserve the God-given life of an innocent or snuff it out? He always showed a strong love for the helpless and disabled, at least in the Bible I read.

Exactly! That is exactly what I was going to post. If this person really thinks Jesus would starve someone to death, well then they better take a closer look at the Bible.

Matt 25:40 ...Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.

Don't be silly. They are Catholic - Michael apparently refuses to divorce her on religious grounds. Living with someone while unmarried is a lesser sin in his church's eyes than for a divorced Catholic to remarry.

We need to face facts. Sometimes God’s answer is no regardless of how fervently we want otherwise. Let us all let her go so she may enjoy her rest with the Lord.- ew

every one thought calling his wife a bitch and asking when is she going to die- bill

Bill, you make broad statements with your keyboard, that are echoed all over these threads. They are all made by TS supporters, yet there is no evidence to back them up. They are friday press releases..

Bill, do you believe in the tooth fairy? You sound that naive...

Pray for Terri, and get off your misdirected soapbox... It will have more impact effect on you, and her!

Jesus is risen. He arose so that we may have eternal life, not on earth, but in God's presence for eternity. Terri gets a head start!

Phillipians 1:18ff-

8But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d] 20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

My husband of 30 yrs. and I discussed how he would react in a similar situation.

I am glad you had that talk. I am sure he felt he was being honest. There is no man that can say what he will do tomorrow, much less the rest of his life. Peter denied Christ in the Garden...

I do not condone MS, nor do I see him as evil, as many of you express herein! He does not make all of the claims attributed, nor is guilty of all of the rumors and innuendo. They have been FULLY investigated. There is no conspiracy. You guys just want something to believe, regardless of truth. You think he's wrong, therefore, it is easy for you to believe any lies that come down the road...

TS died 15 years ago. I commend Michael for keeping her against the odds, and for allowing her to be with God, now, in the face of all of your hatred, and bile.

Your passion is commendable, but misdirected.

I repeat for all to read. Your prayers will do more than all of your name-calling, and vitriolic postings! God recognizes no degree or difference in sins... they all "miss the mark"... He does tell us that prayer works!

Thanks for the visit.

He is risen!

"But she can swallow! She has, in fact. It would take a long time, and Michael refused to allow it, but she can. Why else would they not want anyone giving her water???"

Terri Schiavo was administered swallowing tests and could not swallow. It was determined by the experts that to give Mrs. Schiavo more swallowing tests would be futile. If she was given a mouthful of water she would more than likely aspirate it and could either choke to death immediately, or develop aspirative pneumonia and die.

"One of her nurses in a sworn affidavit stated she did swallow and did not aspirate! Therefore it most certainly does apply."

The nurses' affidavits as well as the CNAs affidavits were reviewed and found not to be credible. One of the CNAs was interviewed the other evening on FOX and when asked about Mrs. Schiavo's ability to swallow she simply responded that Mrs. Schiavo was in COMA when she attended her. Absent a positive result when the swallowing tests were administered, the anecdotal comments of a couple of nurses out of the many that attended her would not "apply".

I have no qualms with "adulterous".

Micheal Schiavo has indeed commited adultery.

Then you go on with "spawn" and "bastard", and THAT is directed at the kids.

Now you tell me how that is supposed to be interpreted.

Those words are inflamatory and we all know it, and you don't like that some people are calling you on it, so you are being belligerant.

As far as I am concerned, you are at the best, crass,
