Minutemen to cover larger area of border than originally planned

"One of the organizers of the Minuteman Project has reported that, due to the unexpected number of volunteers that have committed themselves to the mission, even more of the border will be guarded than was originally planned.

In addition to the strip of border between the Huachuca Mtns. and Douglas, AZ, additional volunteers will be deployed in the Columbus, NM area and both east and west of Nogales, AZ."

Thank you; Sorry I missed it. I tend to agree with you about the average idle jockstrap, but there seems to me a tad more to this movement.

i expect to see the feds sent to shut the MM down.. the ATF most probably.. if there is a firearm technicality they can't hang them with - they'll make one up. V Fox has spoken.. and so has Bush. i can't wait to see who's side "conservatives" will take on this. but then they even let Clinton/Reno get away with gastapo tactics.. so...

Well, if they're trespassing, they should be arrested. Someone owns the land they'll be trampling on.

I think a lot of the ranchers who own the land have invited the Minutemen to patrol their land so then it would not be trespassing.

I believe these ranchers are very frustrated that the illegals trespass at will across their land and are not arrested. Apparently only Americans have to obey the law.

A few of the ranchers have denied them access because they think they will be subject to retribution from the drug and human smugglers after the 30 day project terminates. They know that Americans can't count on the Federal government to protect them from Mexican foreign nationals who regularly invade their property. I don't blame them for being fearful but it is sad and President Bush deserves harsh condemnation for his failure to carry out his Constitutional mandate to protect them.

I think the vast majority of the land is Federal and any citizen, subject to certain fairly nonrestrictive regulations, is free to enter it and camp on it for 30 days at a time.

The Olde Media is bearing down on them even before they start. If they get one bad apple, it'll be 24-hour coverage for weeks. Then we'll see a new unconstitutional law banning such organizations in the blink of an eye.

That's the logical position but all too often congress has a very skewed priority when it comes to funding matters of Nat. security vs. porkchop projects.

I don't think private property trespassing will be a concern. The organizers have been getting written permission from landowners who are fed up with the nightly trampling of their property by the illegals. Many landowners are requesting that MM volunteers 'camp' out with their RV's on the property during the program.

Some of the ranchers closer to the border are not allowing the MM to cross their property because they are too close to the Mexican border. They are afraid of vigilantism from Mexican drug cartels if they do.

Calling the Sheriff, who could take an hour or more to get to their property wouldn't have much effect at preventing or arresting angry Mexicans from cutting their fences, would it?

These people would come in, cause the damage intended and be back across the border into Mexico before the sheriff even arrived.

We all know that our law enforcement people aren't going to pursue revengeful criminals across the border into Mexico.

I don't know about a new law.

Let's just hope there are no bad apples. I have heard some idiot white supremacists are going to try to get into the mix. Let's hope the leaders of the MM choose wisely....

These people have to be stopped before someone gets hurt.

Being that they are breaking no laws, how exactly do you suggest they be stopped?

Congress had best get their priorities properly aligned. They are next in line for an election.

I agree. Useless open-border politicians like Clinton, Bush and Ted Kennedy have to be stopped and replaced by folks with sufficient moral character to defend the borders, language and culture of our only homeland.

Are you talking about stopping the illegals? If so I agree. But people (Americans) are already getting hurt. I read yesterday about yet another gang rape committed by illegal Mexican aliens. A day does not go by when there is not another violent crime committed by illegals against Americans.

The whole point of this exercise is to stop the illegals so that Americans will quit getting hurt.

You are right. But think about it. Most of the potential electorate couldn't even read most of our threads of fr much less care or understand about what is really going on. Someone already said it, they know football scores and who Donald Trumph has fired and that's about it.

You know how bad it has become when American citizens feel they have to start patrolling their own borders. This would never happen if the government just enforced the current immigration laws and sent all the illegals it could find back to their home countries. The government also needs to slap huge fines on employers who hire the illegals. We ended slavery once. Hiring illegals at a fraction of what employers would have to pay American citizens for the same job is just another form of slavery.

I just hope the Minutemen stay within the law so that they become heroes rather than criminals in the eyes of the American public.

You must mean the people crossing into the country illegally right? You mean they have to be stopped before one of the millions crossing our borders turns out to be an al quaida member that ends up blowing up a city, right?

Here is an open letter sent to the FBI in Phoenix.

The following correspondence was mailed via U.S. Postal Service today to the FBI to
request help to preserve the civil rights of MMP volunteers and prospective volunteers:

TO: FROM:

SQUAD 12 JAMES W. GILCHRIST

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION 22 VISTA DEL VALLE

201 EAST INDIANOLA ALISO VIEJO, CA. 92656

PHOENIX, AZ. 85012

March 25, 2005

Dear FBI,

I am one of the coordinators of the Minuteman Project, a grassroots organization of Americans who will assemble under the First Amendment in Cochise County, Arizona from April 1 through 30 to conduct a political protest and rally in support of the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. We will also spend much of that 30 day period observing, and reporting to the appropriate law enforcement agency, any suspected illegal activity where crossing over the U.S. international border into the United States is part of that illegal activity.

I am writing to complain that the ACLU has consistently attempted to interfere with the rights of the volunteers of the Minuteman Project to peaceably assemble in Arizona. Also, the ACLU has repeatedly used libelous and slanderous rhetoric to thwart the ability of U.S. citizens to assemble under the First Amendment, effectively dissuading some U.S. citizens from exercising their civil rights.

With the express purpose of depriving U.S. citizens of the rights to assemble and speak underthe First Amendment, I feel that the ACLU has maliciously engaged in consanguinity

(aka "McCarthyism") by its pejorative references to volunteers for the Minuteman Project

as "vigilantes" and as persons who are "taking the law into their own hands."

The ACLU's witch-hunt mentality has seriously eroded the ability of me, and several thousand other prospective participants, to freely assemble in Arizona under the First Amendment of the Constitution of The United States of America.

Through malicious harassment and intimidation, against U.S. citizens seeking to exercise their rights to freely assemble, including threats of arrest and law suits (for alleged acts that no one had committed, or intended to commit) the ACLU has effectively and illegally suppressed the civil rights of fellow citizens.

I am requesting that all legal remedies and protections available to preserve the civil rights under The Constitution of the United States of America to myself and those participating, or anticipating participation in, the Minuteman Project political rally and assembly, be provided.

Sincerely Yours,

James W. Gilchrist - The Minuteman Project [ Web site URL: www.minutemanproject.com ]
