Money for Terri Went to Attorneys, Michael
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/3/27/85512.shtml ^ | March 27, 2005

According to the Associated Press, Michael Schiavo sued medical professionals who he said failed to recognize symptoms that caused his wife's heart to stop beating, causing her brain damage. As a result, he won a $1.2 million settlement. At the time, Michael sought the funds with the promise to use the money for Terri Schiavo's care and rehabilitation. As part of the settlement, Michael Schiavo received $300,000, the rest being earmarked for Terri's care and rehabilitation. His attorneys say today most of the money designated for Terri is gone, spent on her care and legal bills. One of his lawyers, Deborah Bushnell, told the AP that more than half of the $700,000 designated from the malpractice award for Terri's care has been spent for that purpose, with the rest going toward litigation. But that statement is at odds with records that show that lawyers - not medical care - ate up most of the expenditures and have been paid directly from Terri's Medical Trust fund, with the approval of Judge George Greer: Here’s where most of the money went:

Atty. Gwyneth Stanley - $10,668.05 Atty. Deborah Bushnell - $65,607.00 Atty. Steve Nilson - $7,404.95 Atty. Pacarek - $1,500.00 Atty. Richard Pearse (GAL) - $4,511.95 Atty. George Felos - $397,249.99 Other - 1st Union/South Trust Bank – $55,459.85 Michael Schiavo - $10,929.95 Total: $545,852.34

These funds, the result of a malpractice suit, were meant solely to provide for Terri Schiavo’s care and rehabilitation, not to pay lawyers to help Michael Schiavo kill his wife. Schiavo’s primary attorney, George Felos, a professional advocate of mercy killing, has received upwards of $400,000 dollars since Schiavo hired him. This same attorney, at the expense of Terri’s medical fund, publicly likened Terri to a "houseplant" and has used Terri’s case on national television to promote his newly published book.

Michael Schiavo is listed as a Director of the JERGER & CENTONZE INSURNACE AGENCY, INC., Clearwater, FL. Note that "Insurance" is misspelled, possibly purposefully to avoid detection as an insurance company until having cashed in on a fraudulent policy. He may have taken out a large policy on his wife. The owner of the property is Jodi Centonze.

"ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that absent a stay from the appellate courts, the guardian, Michael Schiavo, shall cause the removal of nutrition and hydration, from the Ward, THERESA SCHIAVO, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2005."

That's a pretty far cry from simply disconnecting any artificial forms of life support. It's like saying that you can remove the respirator, but if the patient is still breathing on his own once the respirator is removed, you've got to suffocate him.

Conversley, Mr. Schivavo can sue them to recoup the money he used for her care. It is like suing an estate and losing. If I were him I would.

Right on. Add to all of this that the experts have yet to be paid and George Felos and his cronies (Suncoast included) owe US $14.8 millions in Medicare over-payments, under appeal for 9 years - ironic, isn't it?. In other words,if everyone had done their job, Schiavo wouldn't have a pot to ____ in, Suncoast would be out of business, and they would have lost interest in Terri a long time ago.

I wonder if the Swift Boat Vets could have handled this better? Just a thought.

Something that needs to be looked at, go to " Justice For Florida Seniors" web site and read article " Hospice Patients Alliance: When the unthinkable Happens. The county of Pinellas has been investigated for guardians, attorney's and judges pooling money in to accounts of unaware patients hiding it from the Gov. and other family members, puting them on medicade and then pulling it out after patient dies. Judg Greer is even mentioned in one article saying they don't need to show these records to investigators, :that is bo ones business.

Yes, also one of his brothers was found to be an owner of some insurance company (perhaps the company that this one was sold to, I'm unclear on that at this point).

There's a lot of suspicion that insurance fraud is going on, not to mention the likelihood of medicare fraud with the hospice, considering the fact that Terri was illegally a resident of a hospice for the dying, for 5 years, when 6 months is supposed to be the limit.

I think the parents' best bet would be to find a competent private investigator, since they have had no relief from any Florida agency.

The woman has been brain dead for 15 years people, she's not going to get any better. Why do you want to keep her alive? There are fates worse than death. The same people who bitch about activist judges are now bitching that federal judges are practicing restraint and not active in this case. They should only be active when they agree with your morals right? I am really sick of hearing about this but I need to get this off my chest.

It is court-ordered euthanasia, pure and simple....Schiavo's anxiousness to do it doesn't matter, it is a direct Court ORDER to Schiavo to do it.

This is now case-law.....algore would call it "controlling legal authority".........and just around the corner are citations of this newly established case-law that will bring forth the era of court ordered euthanasia......this is what the game has been about.....a financial solution for SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Govt pensioners, Veterans healthcare costs, and the profitability of private sector health insurers..........

The most interesting one:
"6) Maintain guardianship at all costs: Keep family members uninformed; if family members try to become guardian, accuse them of stealing; use the ward's assets for legal fights to retain guardianship."
Is this just in Florida, or is it pertinent to other states, do you know?

It would be interesting to find out what the jury, who awarded the rehab monies, think about the way the money was actually spent.
Seems odd that the media haven't contacted them.

Me too,

There's absolutely no doubt of that. In fact, I'd be willing to prognosticate that a large percentage of people posting on Free Republic today will die from forced euthanasia.
