As is informed by the correspondent of AzerTAj, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova George Duka was officially recognized as the counter-candidate of the incumbent President Vladimir Voronin on the post of the head of the state elections of which have been appointed on April 4.
Special parliamentary commission on carrying out of presidential elections has registered G. Duka's nominee on March 30.
President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova is 53, he the expert in the field of genetics and catalysis, preservations of the environment and chemical technologies. He is doctor of chemistry, professor, academician and author of more than 200 scientific works and textbooks. He has more than 30 inventions, and has been minister of ecology and development of territory, and also heads Association of Ecologists "Terra Nostra".
According to the current legislation, the head of the state is elected on alternative basis, at presence at least of two nominees. The president is elected by secret voting with support of vote minimum of 61 deputies from 101, elected to parliament. The Party of Communists has 56 mandates in parliament of present convocation.
Fractions "Democratic Moldova" and Christian Democrat Popular Party that have in present parliament 26 and 11 mandates, respectively, have declared the nonparticipation in elections.
