One year on bread and water. Ooops, that could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Hold the bread and water.

I doubt he will get anything more than a slap on the wrist.. justice in America has become a joke.. sometimes a cruel one.

Pete Williams on MSNBC said he won't do time, but he said he has learned Berger is cooperating.

This gladdened my heart as I had been opining for months that the reason we hadn't seen charges filed is they were pressuring him to cooperate.

Williams was befuddled as to what Berger would be cooperating with in what seemed to him a seemingly straightfoward case. Not so, to the rest of us.

Fingers crossed. Williams obviously had gotten that information from somebody.

Considering today's events, I nominate your post as post of the year, Mr. Robinson.

Fingers crossed here as well. That he wouldn't cooperate to keep someone else out of jail was inconceivable to me, unless if it meant implicating himself as cooperating in a crime with another person as well.

Inarticulately said but hopefully you get the gist.

We'll probably never know the true truth of the matter, and that is discouraging to me. I want to know specifically what documents he stole.

And where are they now?

I tell you one thing, unless this deal explicitly calls for him to admit that he knowingly did wrong -- that this wasn't just some "inadvertant accident" on his part -- that he took the documents because he didn't want the world to know what they revealed -- then it's a whitewash.

I wouldn't count on that, however. I suspect that the fix is in again for the rich and powerful.

He and Clinton will down a few scotches together in a private upstairs room at the "library" and laugh like good old boys about the scrapes they managed to wiggle out of, thanks to money, influence, and prosecutors who are just as corrupt as the defendants. (Clinton's "prosecutors" was the Senate, or as P.J. calls them, the "Parliment of Whores.") It makes me sick!

inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents

each of which may have had handwritten and very incriminating comments on it. Is a duplicate of a memo really a "copy" once it has notes added to it? I doubt he risked getting caught for something that the archives still had an exact copy.

Secretary of Defense Cohen, Impeached Bill Clinton, Albright, and long-accepted CODE-level thief
and document destroyer National Security Adviser Sandy Berger,
holding court in the Ronald Reagan Building on April 25, 1999
The Impeached Bill Clinton: "We were all making comments
we shouldn't have about how the meeting was getting very boring.
So finally we decided we had to make like the monkey. Cohen
started this 'hear no evil,' and then I was next so I spoke no evil,
then Madeleine saw no evil, so Sandy Berger said, 'I'm evil.
'"

On the advice of doctors, many doctors, we took an elderly aunt off a feeding tube who had a massive stroke.

All this talk has made people in our town who have faced similar circumstances and done the same feel like murderers. Their stories have been published on the front pages of our newspaper for days.

The low threshold of "discussion" on Free Republic would never have been tolerated in the past, even when we had a president who was selling our most valuable secrets to our enemies.

And freepers used to engage in something called research instead of becoming a dumping ground for every baseless conspiracy theory to hit the internet.

But it's been evident for some few weeks now that the rules have changed and I am not alone in believing that is a most unfortunate thing.

I understand that he argued to no avail that he shoved the papers in his pants because he had to go potty but the men's room was out of toilet paper.

Big deal. He'll do a Susan McDougal, serve whatever brief sentence he incurs, keep his mouth shut and walk out with enough Clinton money in a Swiss bank account (or wherever modern crooks are hiding their offshore assets these days) to be set for life.

The MSM will totally avoid looking into what documents he stole and why, and it will be another case of "move along, people. Nothing to see here."

I am not impressed.

Time to disbar Sandy "Peking" Berger, this guy has a law license and for this serious offense he is unfit to keep it.

This will be washed over, as are all things Clinton. The defeat of Hitlery must take presidence over all causes through 2007. The ticket is being lined up right before our eyes. We must win this one, to put the final stake in the heart Liberalism. We (Republicans) are notorious for eating our own. We need to find someone to get behind early.
