Small town lifestyle in Forest City. At the edge of the mountains and mountain folk are good people but quirky.
Your family will be welcomed here I'm sure but remember
should you choose to live in my state.....We don't give
a damn how you used to do it in La.
Geesh - then you lived in the GoM, didn't you!?!
Any true North Carolinian would heartedly welcome you to the state and challenge you to enjoy NC BBQ, boiled peanuts, NASCAR, and a chicken bog.
Enjoy!
I grew up in NC and would move back in a heartbeat. I like where I am now, and the only reason I'd leave is if I had the chance to go back to NC--anywhere in the state.
North Carolina is fine, but you must BEWARE of the mountain moose -- It often mimics a cow, then, when you get close, it leaps and attacks! |
Well I lived in southeast Louisiana. Not quite the GoM but I'm sure in a hundred years or so the area I lived in would be very close to the gulf with the rate of erosion.
I live in Sawmills, NC at the "eastern edge" of Western NC. I moved to NC in 1976 after living in 6 other states (all Northern except California). My wife grew up in NC and always said that is where we should be. I finally had an opportunity to move here. About 6 months later, I said we should put up a wall at the Virginia state line to keep all those Northerners out!
You will not be disappointed in Forest City, unless you really want a big city.
Life long North Carolinian...love it.
I traveled through there a few years ago. I made the wrong turn on #10 where I was supposed to continue to BtnRge. Went the full 180 miles out of my way to cross the Pontchartrain by NwOrlns. Stopped in a little town called Gonzales, know of it?
Very friendly ppl...
And since I see you aren't a yankee, we'll be more than happy to have you
LOL!! Ditto that.
Cool. My best friend now lives in Ponchatoula. (sp?)
Yea, the spelling is right. It's a 15 minute hop from where I live. Best strawberries in America.
You are so lucky. I'd do anything to move out of New York, but hubby's job won't allow that to happen. ho hum
That is not totally true. I had a job cooking at TGIFridays for $9 an hour.
I found out more info. If I can I might swing a promotion in Lumberton or Raleigh. All my supervisor told me was that there is going to be an offer for a job in North Carolina. So those might end up being a possibility since I put in for several jobs in NC.
Oh and I found out that it might not be Forest City but actually Rutherfordton.
Wow....you and your wife are brave. He makes too much money to just walk away and the health insurance isn't bad either. In a few more years he will eligible to retire....keeping my fingers crossed.
I failed to mention one major flaw in North Carolina. Be prepared to hire a lawyer, as this is one of the more ligitigious states, in addition to having corruption in every level of government and law enforcement. If you aren't careful, some local sue-happy person may try to set you up for a civil suit. The laws are fairly lax, and any idiot can sue someone if they even look at them wrong. Just be cautious. First thing I did was put all my property into a family "limited partnership" for asset protection. If you buy a house, make sure you have your attorney title it CORRECTLY to protect you in case of a lawsuit.
Well anywhere in NC is better than almost anywhere else. Raleigh is a good size city with a lot of Yankees, who are glad they are now in the South.
I love living in NC and will never move back to NY. But you also failed to mention another major flaw. Assholes who consider anyone not 10th generation North Carolinians to be the enemy.
The day I moved to NC I ran into one. I pulled into the parking spot infront of my townhome for the first time. The guy in the townhome next to mine was on his front steps. He saw my NY Plates and as soon as I got out he said (angrily and in all seriousness), "Great! Another God Damn Yankee."
To which I responded, "Thats right you red neck asshole."
He was also quickly introduced Mr. Marshall Stack and Mr. Gibson Explorer.
He never said another word to me.
