Sandy Berger Pleads Guilty to Destroying Classified Document
Washington Post ^ | April 2, 2005 | Carol D. Leonnig

The deal's terms make clear that Berger spoke falsely last summer in public claims that in 2003 he twice inadvertently walked off with copies of a classified document during visits to the National Archives, then later lost them.

He described the episode last summer as "an honest mistake...."

The terms of Berger's agreement required him to acknowledge to the Justice Department the circumstances of the episode. Rather than misplacing or unintentionally throwing away three of the five copies he took from the archives, as the former national security adviser earlier maintained, he shredded them with a pair of scissors late one evening at the downtown offices of his international consulting business.

The document, written by former National Security Council terrorism expert Richard A. Clarke, was an "after-action review" prepared in early 2000 detailing the administration's actions to thwart terrorist attacks during the millennium celebration. It contained considerable discussion about the administration's awareness of the rising threat of attacks on U.S. soil.

As much aa I despise them the Clinton's were bit a symptom. The disease is, at it's core, the apathy and selfishness of the American people.

It is hard to believe that we would send Martha Stewart to jail but not BERGER....hmm. Quite disturbing.

Berger "hopes it doen't tarnish his reputation".

How arogant is that? He stole documents, he lied about it and he doesn't think it should tarnish his reputation. Just like Bill Clintoon getting a hummer in the Oval Office. These people have no soul.

Heck after the three years is up his SC might automatically be restored. Or maybe his lawyer only has to submit a letter requesting it be restored.

I will call that bet and raise you a house payment :-) DSS will never allow it. it will have to first be a President pardon and even that is iffy on a legal front. People lose them ALL THE TIME for lesser evils.

Therefore, we should return to EXECUTING SPYs. Why the walker family and their friends survived is beyond me.

With the willing accomplices in the MSM, I cannot help but wonder if this incident would have been whitewashed like so many other lately. FR may have had a hand in getting this back on the radar screen. After this thread came out on 25 March 2005 last week,

What Became of Sandy Berger?

these threads just happened to appear since the Berger story was questioned.

This needs further investigation; given the documents he destroyed were copies,

Three of the documents are forever gone. There are no copies.

It is said that the documents were evolving drafts of the same document, and there are perhaps copies of them around. However, the documents that Berger destroyed contained "margin notes" made by people who had read the drafts and there are no copies left that have those "margin notes". They're gone.

It was purely and simply a cover-up. Berger planned to lie to the 9/11 Commission and he destroyed documents/margin notes that he knew would expose his lies.

"I want to know what kind of Idiocy he was trying to cover up!"

I wonder. It just about seems he wanted to get caught. Why was it that important to be caught, that is the question?

They also have no taste - consider that the commander in heat chose Monica L whereas JFK at least played with Hollywood stars.

Clinton should have been impeached for bad taste, then hung for his criminal behavior.

Martha Stewart lies to SEC investigators about a stock sale and goes to prison. The justification for sending her is we need to be sure that there is confidence in stock transactions and to make everyone know that "even the powerful are not above the law".

Sandy Berger lies to NSA investigators about NATION SECURITY and pleads to a misdemeanor and a fine.

They should just sandblast the words off the Supreme Court Building that says "Equal Justice Under Law".

Wasn't there a rumor at the time that Burger was talking on his cell phone at the time? If so the media has shown no curiosity as to who he was talking to. 4 posted on 04/02/2005 11:03:29 AM EST by KJacob (If I yawn it is only in anticipation.) Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Advisor, testified before the committee today. He said that during the 1996 campaign there was no adequate screening of White House visitors done.

SEN. FRED THOMPSON, Chairman, Senate Governmental Affairs Committee (To Berger): There for a while there’s really an unbelievable string of events taking place. You had an individual by the name of Wong June, chairman of the Chinese International Trust & Investment Company, an arms manufacturing company, which is run by the People’s Liberation Army, connected to a plan to smuggle assault rifles into the United States, attended a coffee with the President in February of ‘96. Ning Lap Sing, Mr. Wu, head of real estate development conglomerate with--from Macao. It’s a notorious place where a lot of at least gambling racketeering is going on. Roger Tamraz, who we have talked to, over really the objections of the NSC, managed to get into the White House I believe six times, including seeing a movie with the President. Gregory LaShinksy, international businessman linked to organized crime in Russia and the smuggling of nuclear materials, drug smuggling and money laundering, attended the dinner with the President in October of 1993, and I take it that you were not aware of this disturbing pattern of activities and--but I also assume that had you been aware, you would have been interested, or the NSC would have been interested in checking on who these individuals were and whether or not there were any adverse implications to there being with the President or the Vice President.

KWAME HOLMAN: Berger said he was unaware Hotung’s wife had pledged a $100,000 contribution to the Democratic Party at about the same time he was asked to meet with Hotung.

SEN. FRED THOMPSON: It was apparently worth $100,000 to him to have a photograph taken with the No. 2 person at the NSC. I think that’s--

SAMUEL BERGER: Mr. Chairman, I really--I can’t accept that conclusion, first of all. I don’t know the facts. But, you know, I’ve looked at the documents, and my impression is that he actually had already decided to give before any meeting with me came up...............Excerpt

I would also like to know to whom his phone records show he was making calls when in the library cramming papers into his clothing and dismissing library personnel. This had to be important to risk his position or he never would have committed this crime.

"Sandy Burger knows things that are best kept secret, regardless of his criminal activities. You don't want these people mad at you. That is just life."

I have to disagree. He may know things that can hurt Bill and Hillary and friends. But hurt this country....??

Let's examine, once again, the extent the MSM went to attack G.W. Bush with lies. They used false statements, purportedly based on Classifed Info, to call the President a Liar!

They used people involved in security and intelligence to call the President a Liar and a Manipulator and a guilty of a Cover-up!

The purpose was to overthrow the U.S. President by shifting American opinion in one of the most frenzied, hate filled campaigns in history.

This damaged American in front of the World, gave status to Socialist/Communist Anti-Americans, American hating Arabs (maybe an oxymoron), and a Voice to all other Anti-Americans.

So, what harm could it be to throw this Bastard in Jail?!!?
