Drudge Team May Break Up
DiscovertheNetwork.org ^ | April 4, 2005 | Richard Poe

Posted on 04/04/2005 7:29:11 AM PDT by venizelos

Andrew Breitbart – long the number two man at the Drudge Report – is rumored to be working behind the scenes with Arianna Huffington's new Webzine, the Huffington Report, according to Washington Times "Inside the Beltway" columnist John McCaslin.

The Huffington Report is scheduled to launch sometime this month, and will cater to the radically chic. Its liveliest feature promises to be a group blog where movie stars, New York media mavens, Hollywood film moguls and other wealthy proponents of class struggle and proletarian solidarity can sound off on politics (see "Arianna Huffington Launches Group Blog for Celebrity Leftists"). In the Washington Times of March 31, John McCaslin writes:

"It might have conservative-turned-liberal pundit Arianna Huffington's name attached to it, but we're told that Matt Drudge sidekick and story contributor Andrew Breitbart is the brains behind the soon-to-start blog, Huffington Report.

`There's a lot of rumors out there that I cannot confirm or deny,' Mr. Breitbart said yesterday."

That's what we call a non-denial denial in the news business. If indeed Breitbart is slated to edit the Huntington Report, it seems unlikely that he will stay with Drudge.

Since 1999, Breitbart has worked fulltime for the Drudge Report, in a capacity that is probably more accurately described as co-editor than mere "sidekick and story contributor." His departure would certainly be a blow to the Drudge Report.

Breitbart and investigative reporter Mark Ebner co-wrote the Tinseltown exposé Hollywood Interrupted, published last year by John Wiley & Sons.

As I understand it, the bucks are big at the Drudge Report, as there are only a couple of people on staff, the ad revenues are huge, and bandwidth is not too expensive because they very rarely host any of their own media.

If Breitbart is jumping ship for more money, it would be interesting to know exactly who's footing the bill.

What a thrill that will be!! We'll be able to read the wisdom of a bunch of marginally talented, guilt ridden flaming lefties as they tell us how W and the Republicans are bad and how Traitor John Heinz, the socialist dems and the UN are good. Wonderful!!

I guess it will be a lot of Barbra Streisand with decent editing. At least we'll be able to collect some great words and concepts to be used against the neocommunists in the next election (assuming any one reads it). You know that the public relations firms that these idiots hire will be able to put on a bunch of new people called "professional celebrity bloggers" who will speak for the celebrity hypocrit on the blogs.

Am I the only one that didn't know that Matt had a partner?

I always thought it was a one man operation.

Here is a short excerpt from www.miami.com:
Linking news sites, Matt Drudge creates an Internet success

rpachter@herald.com

Matt Drudge, Internet personality, is a self-styled seeker of the truth, specifically of hidden and obscured truths. If there's a Drudge brand he'd like to convey, it's of the relentless, rumpled, ever-vigilant newsman -- always connected and plugged into his network of operatives.

The truth is a bit less dramatic.

From his Miami Beach condo, Drudge monitors television news channels and websites on three computers set up in his home office. Using WindowsXP and other off-the-shelf software, he updates his website, Drudgereport.com , several times a day.

Contributors to traditional print and broadcast media sometimes derisively refer to Drudge, who gained national notoriety for his postings during the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky affair, as a gossip monger -- or worse. But Drudge, 36, has turned Drudgereport.com into quite a tidy enterprise.

By his own estimate, the former convenience-store clerk makes about $1.2 million a year, including revenue from his nationally syndicated Sunday night radio show, which airs locally on WIOD.

His Internet site is mainly a portal, an index of news stories that appear on newspaper and wire-service websites. He writes catchy headlines for his top links, augmented by his own stories based on tips from his virtual network of Internet informants -- many employed by mainstream print and broadcast outlets.

Much of his information during the Clinton impeachment investigation came from leaks from journalists and political operatives.

So what does that make Drudge?

''I'm a newsman and not a journalist,'' he said in a recent interview, ''nor a cyber this or that.''

Since his site is primarily composed of links to stories on other sites and is a Web log, commonly called a blog, how about a blogger?

''Nope. Sounds too much like booger,'' he said.

Drudge describes his own politics as libertarian (with a small L), though his part as a catalyst in what some called ''the vast right-wing conspiracy'' that precipitated the impeachment hearings brought him a dedicated right-of-center following, which he continues to cultivate.

Contrary to popular perception, his is not a solo act; his longtime friend and associate Andrew Breitbart, a Californian, monitors and updates the site when Drudge himself is asleep or away...

Does this mean that Matt Drudge will have to put in some more hours?

It seems like since Drudge moved to Florida, the site has gotten sort of stale. It seems that his site reacts to what is posted here on Free Republic. That is, news tends to break on FR before it breaks on Drudge. It used to be the other way around. Remember all those threads here that used to be a variation of ***DRUDGE REPORTS (blah-blah-blah)***?

Don't see much of that anymore.

But who can blame the guy for taking a sabbatical. He was probably working 20 hours a day in the beginning. Now it's time for him to regain that cutting edge.

HILLARY's friend ARIANNA now goes mainstream Internet while dividing DRUDGE in half..?

Sounds a bit like when ARIANNA began one morning one year ago blasting her California Recall Opponent ARNOLD's Energy Policies on TV...

as later that day America's Northeast is suddenly shutdown by a massive Power Blackout..?

A Power Blackout that fired up just 15 miles from HILLARY's previous night's Booksigning Event in Shaker Heights, Ohio where she also blasted BUSH's Energy Policies in the Media..?

As HILLARY then continued on by blaming BUSH's Energy policies for that massive Power Blackout all afternoon and night in National TV/Radio Interviews from the comfort of her New York Home that wasn't "Dark" because it was being lit up by her own Secret Service portable generator that no one else had...?

ARIANNA = Trouble from HILLARY

No Question.
