Yes. By all means, write an e-mail to Sen. Frist and tell him that calm and rational thought, respect for the constitution, and respect for our historically effective separation of powers, will not be tolerated.

And be sure to make clear that you are writing on behalf of Free Republic. That will help boost our collective credibility enormously.

Uh, no. Bad idea. I might say me & atlaw feel the same, but no way could I speak in behalf of Free Republic.

Wouldn't be prudent.

I fully agree. That ill-advised crack should have been accompanied by a sarcasm tag. Sorry.

How was Cheney taken out of context? I missed it. Thanks.

On the bright side, I never did think I deserved my reputation for perfection.

LOL. See, I was just working off of those rumors that you were/are perfect.

Too bad I didn't read the thread up to your mea culpa. Then my reputation for perfection (self-administered of course) would also still be intact.

He was sucker-punched by being asked if he agreed with DeLay saying they were going to take "retribution" on the courts?

This was a deliberate distortion as DeLay never used any such word,

Cheney said he hadn't heard yet what DeLay had said, but that he didn't believe there should be "retribution"

He's usually too sharp to get caught in these word game traps...

I think there must be a misunderstanding. I agree with you about never letting the liberals win an election. I would make a rare exception in the case of Lincoln Chafee, who is pretty far to the left already. He is taking up a valuable GOP committee seat on Foreign Relations, and perhaps elsewhere.

I would also question whether the Rat party is really splitting in two. They are probably continuing to lose a few voters here and there, but the fact that they got 48 percent in November with a bad candidate suggests an enormous amount of strength, I'm sorry to say.

Just a side note to my post #290 - re Cheney & "retribution" sucker-punch question

As a retired investigative reporter - I always investigated BOTH sides of an issue/story before going to print,

I still try to use that rule of thumb here - which is why I researched to see in what context Cheney's remark was made

It's also perfectly fair to ask: "How are YOU doing?"

I am doing fine Patriot. Retired, looking back a lot farther than I can look forward, so I really can't get myself too worked up over a mess of RINO's, I doubt that I will live long enough to see the worst of what is coming.

I pray God will forgive me and all those that have let this happen to a blessed country.

I don't think that's appropriate," he said. "I may disagree with decisions made by judges in any one particular case. But I don't think there would be much support for the proposition that because a judge hands down a decision we don't like, that somehow we ought to go out -- there's a reason why judges get lifetime appointments - Vice President Cheney

out of context or not, doesn't sound like he supports DeLay in this case
