Like millions of other Canadians, we spent much of this past weekend surfing U.S. Web sites for information about last week's reportedly explosive testimony before Justice John Gomery's Adscam inquiry. We cannot reproduce that information: The testimony in question originates with one of three men under criminal indictment for their alleged role in the $100-million scandal; and along with every other Canadian media outlet, we are consequently subject to a publication ban that prevents us from reporting what he said in order to protect the fair trials of the accused in Quebec. But suffice it to say that if even half of the tantalizing disclosures supposedly revealed to Judge Gomery are shown to be true, the governing Liberals will be dealt a stunning blow. It is hardly a surprise that the party's operatives are already working feverishly to contain the fallout.
Their efforts may be in vain. Even before the most recent testimony, the narrative unfolding at the Gomery Inquiry was enough to appall Canadian voters. It is looking more and more as if Adscam was in large part a scheme to funnel money from the federal fisc to elements within the Quebec branch of the Liberal Party. It will be months before we know the size of the payoffs and the identities of all the wrongdoers. Still, it appears that the scheme was of such a magnitude that it necesarily involved dozens of players. As such, it betrays a deep rot that must be purged from our governing party.
This does not mean that every Liberal is complicit or tainted. There is no proof, for instance, that Prime Minister Paul Martin had direct knowledge of Adscam, let alone was involved in any way. And, as we have noted many times before, he has stood by Judge Gomery's inquiry even as other Liberals have urged him to call it off. But nor can the whole thing be passed off as the work of a cabal of "Chretienites" — as if they and "Martinites" formed two entirely distinct species of pol. At last year's farcically ineffective hearings before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Liberal MPs shamelessly abetted the stonewalling and distortions of witness after witness. And if there was any difference in the behaviour of "Martinites" and "Chretienites," it was lost on us.

The latest installment over at the Captain's site reports the Canadian AG is considering investigating the Canadian blogosphere to find bloggers who have linked back to CQ and broken the publication ban.

It is more like some of the shadowy fundraising we saw in 2000, where the work is never performed but instead is laundered through the ad agency and then finds its way back in to a Liberal (read DNC) slush fund. Basically phony invoices with huge kickbacks to the Liberal party machine.
No difference...
Plus AARP, ACLU, and a hundred others vectors of mispending, maybe a thousand.. or more..
Worse, the licensing of broadcast bands - say rather, the censorship of everyone who does not have a license - represents abridgement of "the freedom of speech, or of the press."The government, ironically, grants broadcast licenses on condition that the licensee claim to be objective. The First Amendment emphasizes that it covers politics ("the right of the people peacably to assemble, and to petititon the government"); the government responds by giving favors to people for claiming to make the distinction between what is political and what is not - a distinction which the First Amendment does not recognize.
In real life nothing is quite so political as making the statement that you are not political.
I do wonder, if you should put people like me in jail, wouldn't the jails be over crowed.
It's too bad that we Canadians don't need to look at your liberal 
media for news.

Yea right. More than 10 years of holidays, world tours, spending like royalty complete with red carpet, wine taters, and a liberal has the gall to say not all liberals were tainted? They have Paul Martin, a prime minister, who was finace minister during the whole time, yet unaware of the checks written from his office? Including the juicy ones to his shipping company, Canada Steamship lines? And Jean Cretien, talking golf balls, completely unaware as well, even though the smell of Iraqi oil money was drifting from under his office door even before his talk of golf balls? Show me ONE liberal who isn't tainted, just one. All of them tugged on the party line despite the will of the nation, because the gravey was rich in the liberal dictatorship buffet. Canada has suffered under a dictatorship which has destroyed the nation probably beyond repair. They almost got away with stealing billions under the Koyoto scam too, which was another brilliant scam close to Paul Martins office, by his dear familly friend Maurice Strong.
Liberals suck.
Even if the Conservatives won a majority, they would lack power. The selected not electe senate is full of liberals, the judicial bench is stacked with selected not elected liberals.
It would take them 10 years to clean out half of them.

As I understand it, this is about having the Canadian government pay an ad agency a bunch of money, while said ad agency hired a bunch of liberal hacks and put them on the payroll.
