What do you mean "no luck?" I got a clear view of my street address and the surrounding area. Also, a close up view of my favorite restaurant. Are you on the moon?

Google give you a nice map, not a satellite photograph.

Didn't work here, either. The map, okay. Zoom in to the max and nothing but a checkerboard of red Xs.

That is extremely neat!! I just spent a lot of time 'playing' with it and printed out the map.

I scrolled the map earlier up to Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. Then searched New York and down to Florida. You may view your own home or your kids schools.

LOL!

They must've taken that picture when my lawn was dead-dry last summer!

Doesn't look like that now ;)

Some images are better than others. I was able to type in my old address in San Diego and zoom in to take a look around, but I couldn't zoom in on my current address.

These are old images. I saw the tree that I cut down four years ago in that picture.

And the pool wasn't "algae green" in the satellite image...

It was a special look I seemed to be able to recreate every ten days.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Your respective legs have been pulled - that's a view of a beach on St. Bart's in the french West Indies. We haven't been there yet but its on my list! I was looking around to help Joe in his #14 post when I ran across that pic. ;-)

"Your city is being protected every day by American satellites."

This is absurd. It makes it sound like the sat. picture you see is real time when in reality they are months or years old. Most areas outside of cities don't even have resolutions closer than entire county size photos and other Internet map providers have had similar satellite photos for years. The only difference that I can see is that 'Google maps' photos pan and zoom more smoothly than others.

These satellite photos are not going to protect you from terrorists.

Or if you want to see real high resolution images (down to 1 meter) go to www.terraserver.com

The free service lets you see down to 8 meter. You can buy a subscription to see lower. (if you need that level of detail)
