The Seattle Times found that 159 Washington coaches have been reprimanded or fired in the past decade because of sexual misconduct. As with Deming, at least 98 of them continued coaching or teaching afterward.

"Deming kept his job until March 1991, when Whatcom County Deputy Prosecutor Mac Setter offered a deal: Setter would dismiss charges if Deming resigned and never taught again." Remind anyone of anything??

"If districts do create a paper trail, teachers have a right under most district contracts to have information removed from their files, including misconduct complaints, after a few years." WOW

Where are the parents ? Why bother with the school officials ? Anyone who touched my daughter inappropriately would be visited by the police in short order, with charges following.

Why did the parents put up with this ???????

Even when school officials find wrongdoing, they often bow to pressure from the teachers union, handing out mild punishments or none at all.

I see.

I'm not one for large sweeping law suits that cover teachers, schools, and school districts. But damn, what were they thinking? Fry this bastard and the bastards that knew his history.

As is my distinguished habit, I'm probably missing the key point, but there's High School Girl's Wrestling?

And if there's a coach, I wonder how you can tell if he's actually groping or just showing the girls a new hold?  Either way, no way one of the young Eaglettes will be involved in above activity.

A visit from me would be first... then an ambulance.

I don't think he was coaching girls' wrestling. I think he was a PE teacher in addition to being a mens' wrestling coach. Most of the time, these coaches have day jobs as teachers (hence why the teachers' unions are involved.)

I'm not a parent, but I have more understanding for a father who beats the tar out of someone who messed with his kid than one who "puts up with this" - but I think that fatherlessness is a big part of this, those who prey, prey on the unprotected.

Probably a valid point or dad is a metrosexual and the coach met him.

I'm just as much for girls being treated equally when it comes to sports as the next person, but if you've watched high school wrestling, I think parents would be asking for trouble by letting their daughters wrestle boys. Yes, where I live (and probably many other places also), girls and boys wrestle each other. I think it's wrong.

I really don't think these people check into the family life of a kid before molesting them. But, I'm sure they'll keep on if no one arrests them for it. You don't need a Dad to call the police, just the certainty of your conviction that a man touching a minor girl is just plain wrong.

Most of the coaches I encountered were of the "Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2" variety. You didn't want them catching a glance of you in the shower.

BTW: When I was in high school, our MARRIED gym teacher received Lewinski's from three of my (female) classmates.

"I'll be honest, most schools don't follow a code of ethics for their coaches," said Tim Flannery, assistant director of the National Federation of State High School Associations. "They wait for the crisis and scramble to decide how to deal with it."

Most schools don't even follow a code of ethics for teachers. They get in trouble in one school and they just go to another with a vote of confidence from their previous school. The educational establishment is despicable and our legislatures are afraid to buck the educational establishment and move for legislation to stop this assinity.

Oh, I think it plays a part. Having a father helps a girl - making her less likely to accept the advances of a coach/teacher/other authority figure.
