IE supports it, it just ignores it. If it didn't support it, you would get errors.

Not true. The following sentence is enclosed in <BigSkyFreeper> tags.

Test.

Did you get an error or is sentence displayed and the tag just ignored?

You can't claim that IE "supports" the <BigSkyFreeper> tag can you? IE handles it and the <blink> tag the same way after all.

What about the thickness ?

Hmmmmmmmm...not sure how to answer that!! Thicknes is important :D

<hr width=50% noshade size=20>

If you leave off the noshade it will look like this:

<hr width=50% size=20>

The word "bold" should not be capitalized.

And you forgot to use a period after the word "text."

But, to use italics means you have to do HTML on your whole reply which is a real pain.

I would like to see something that would not require HTML for the entire reply because it is just too time consuming.

That is why I have used...

....You said this.......

And then reply.

I don't think it looks great but need something that could just be typed with putting in all the paragraph signs etc.

Just shows up as "less than" and "more than" signs in FF and IE, because it's not a valid tag in any browser, and hasn't been defined as a tag by the "document creator" in this case FR. So, even your example is flawed.

Quote the person you are replying to with italics (if you are replying to someone specifically and what they said).

That has always been SOP for my responses to other posts. It makes things very readable.

I agree.

I would like to see something that would not require HTML for the entire reply because it is just too time consuming.

It's trouble to put on a suit when you go to a business meeting. It's trouble to put on a tux when you go to a formal ball. Heck, it's trouble to put on a swimsuit when you want to take a dip in the pool.

If you want to show up for a business meeting in blue jeans, go to the ball in a regular suit or forget your swimsuit and just peel off your clothes when you go for a swim, that's your business.

Well - my wish list is a section of the posting window that can be used for quoting what you are replying to that ALREADY HAS THE PROPER CODED HTML FOR ITALICS and that will not mean the whole reply has to be manually HMTL'd.

If we had two posting windows - first for the italics quote, second for the reply.

I know it is a lot to ask but just to get on the waiting list.

I am lazy and I have now forgotten the code and the newbys will not be familiar with the code anyway.

New "House Rule", when you go to the immigration thread introduce yourself with:

I would like to see something that would not require HTML for the entire reply because it is just too time consuming.

I never understood the rationale for making 'any' HTML tag turn off auto-formatting rather than having auto paragraph formatting be controlled by the absense of [br] or [p] tags, auto-URL formatting triggered by the absense of [a] tags, and auto-&amp; conversion triggered by the absense of valid character entities.

Actually, I wish there were a pseudo-tag that could be used to automatically convert single line breaks to [br] and double line breaks to [p] within a specified region (somewhat like [pre], but without the other implications thereof). Ideally, this tag would have one flavor for [p] tags only (ignoring single line breaks), and one for both [p] and [br].

Do you remember the older version of FR, where style bombs (unclosed tags or misused style elements) could cause havoc?

Ahh, but there is a benefit. Those who have been here a while may or may not know the little numbers under each post link back to the post you're commenting on. Someone new to the forum wouldn't necessarily know that and would therefore have no idea what your comment relates to or how to find it.

May I also suggest that the person who posts differentiate his/her reply between
- the first person who posted
- the author of the material that the first person posted.

For example, Travis posts an article by Ward Churchill. Now, Jeff Head responds to the post. Here are two possible responses:

- Travis, thanks for this post. I agree, Mr. Churchill has some problems.

- Ward Churchill, what is your problem?

Clearly identifying the person being addressed will prevent misunderstanding.

Indeed I do. Too bad that JR has totally disabled style properties, though. Some of them allowed a level of precision in text formatting that wasn't available via any other means. It was pretty cool being able to use pitures as table backgrounds and use styles to precisely place labeling text. My personal favorite was a picture of all sorts of bags that had big "GUN" labels on the side; using nothing but HTML, I changed all the labels to say "STEAL ME".

That was fun when someone would set off the whole rest of a thread in bold until someone switched it off.

I remember one FReeper dude with vision problems who would periodically set a whole thread to some humongous font size rather than just adjust his own personal settings.
