She hasn't killed anybody, by Kennedy standards that makes her an upstanding member of society.

Ted Kennedy (Vehicular homicide, not prosecuted)

Michael Skakel (Kennedy cousin, murder, imprisoned)

William Kennedy Smith (Rape, acquitted due to media trashing accuser)

You've got that right. She just couldn't put up with the affairs like the other Kennedy women could and carry on with a blank face with a smile pasted on. I never have understood how intelligent women could put up with that kind of behavior.

I feel very sorry for her. I hope her children treat her with love and respect and get help for her. She could live many happy years if she can recover from acute alcoholism and become sober.

Joan's a public drunk.
You don't think her kids should look out for her?

I didn't say that, but consider...
"Joan Kennedy ... took the stand to fight against her children ..."

This sounds like someone who does not want these
particular people, including a "D-RI", looking out
for her.

But like I said, it's too late now. She could have
given power of attorney to a favored party, but her
life is now in the hands of the New England Democrat
machine.

And how do you know????
I see him often on TV, I can't recall when he looked sober.
I have a relative that drinks too much, he has the same appearance as Ted Kennedy.

Whatever you think of him, Ted Kennedy is no longer a public drunk.

Did you ever notice that drunks always think everone is sober.

" Ted Kennedy is no longer a public drunk "

??? Really ?? How does one explain this .....

" Kennedy also mangled the name of the Democrats' new star, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, calling him "Osama bin … Osama … Obama."

Alcoholism, a family disease.

This is so sad but there are so many just like her and families who are suffering who don't make the headlines.

He's not a public drunk. He's a private drunk.

And isn't he married to a felon? or is it that his wife's father is a felon?

That's okay. His ancester's made their money breaking many laws.

Does it give you some sort of secret thrill to stumble into these threads and act the fool?

Somewhere I have old Time and Newsweek articles from immediately after Tubby's little joyride. The notion that he took a "wrong turn" is preposterous, he had been on the island his entire life, there were two turns (one to the mainland and one to the abandoned bridge), in his life the bridge had NEVER been used, even drunk there is no way he would have made such an illogical turn. There were reports from residents of Hyanniport who said, "it isn't summer until you see Teddy Kennedy driving drunk."

Yes, alcoholism is tragic. But I think this is about something else. She has a drinking problem, but she was sober enough to make it to court and fight her kids taking custody of her money and her body.

She's not accussed of any crime that I know of. If she wishes to spend her money and destroy herself that's her choice. If the kids want to help her, do an intervention, or talk to her, whatever, likely will have as much effect as taking her to court. You can't force someone to stay sober.

Call me Kennedy-suspicious, but I don't think the kids are doing this for her.

Joan's earliest sign of incompetence... saying "I do" with Teddy.

I agree with what you stated. The real victim in all of this is Joan.

Thanks Teddy, for nothing. (Has he no shame?)

We don't know what the kids have done over the years. She has been to rehab several times.

You can't tell an alcoholic to stop being an alcoholic any more than you can tell a diabetic to stop being a diabetic.

You can't talk to a drunk because you don't speak the same language. All you can so until they decide they want to stop drinking is just not let them take you down with them.
