UNITED NATIONS, April 9 -- Former president Bill Clinton will spend at least two years in his new role as the top U.N. envoy promoting recovery in tsunami-hit countries and demanding accountability for the unprecedented billions of dollars donated by countries and individuals, his deputy said.

Erskine B. Bowles said Clinton will also push for the construction of better homes, schools and hospitals in areas devastated by the killer waves and adoption of new measures to warn against disasters and ensure quick action by governments when they occur.

Also from article:

Clinton is scheduled to make his first public appearance as a U.N. envoy Wednesday. He is to meet Secretary General Kofi Annan for the first time since his appointment was announced on Feb. 1, and they will hold a news conference, U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced Friday.

Billy's attempting to become Jimmy Carter 2 but his lust for trashy women and cheeseburgers is greater than his lust for a Nobel prize.

Oh my, looks like Hillary's campaign fundraising scheme has just been established.

Yeah, brilliant of the UN to put this guy in charge of billions of dollars. He'll make "Oil for Food" look like a Mother Teresa operation.

This has got to be the ultimate insult, so far. It lends the stamp of Our approval to everything the sorry POS has ever done!

Now we'll see just how stupid it was to appoint WJC in the first place. He'll be travelling the world on our dime and doing all he can to secure his position and Hullary's.
Way to go Bush.

Maybe so. Maybe not.

Remember, Clinton told that reporter of Air Force One that he had never expected to fly on AF1 again. I think he knows that Hillary has no chance of winning.

I suggest we let him get both feet in before the Rug gets pulled.

His "Brave New World" should be as a shattered vase, broken scattered and stepped on.

Dismissal and Failure to be added to his "Mixed Legacy"
(Jimmy is starting to overtake him in the Leagacy department)

Good point, Jeff Gordon. Because it's always about him and not the subject at hand, Clinton eventually reveals his true thoughts.

I believe this latest development is not something the Hillary camp is happy about. She knows she can't trust her husband and he will always do something to upstage her, even if it means helping to destroy her presidential hopes. It's about him - not her - and she knows it. I've maintained for years that he does not want to stand behind her for four or eight years in the White House. It would do nothing for his legacy.

Good move, W, give him enough rope.

Clintons take over the world. Bill has his foot in the door at the UN. Replacing Koffi is next, and then Hill as Pres. in '08.

Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse. Bill micromanages every dollar donated to the tsunami victims, and sipons off millions for incidental expenses.

Isn't putting Clinton in charge of accountability a bit like putting the fox in charge of the hen house?

His bride can't be happy with this.

Too much face time for Bill...at the UN...could bring about an "enough of the Clintons" backlash against Hillary.

There is no other position in the world that old Bill can use to gain a crowd like he saw gathered for the Pope last week. Old Bill was green with envy about the size of that crowd.

Cult of Clintonism has gained a base under the flag of the UN.

This is not an appointment by President Bush. President Bush named Clinton, along with his dad, to lead American fundraising.

Kofi Annan appointed Clinton to the UN position, which is separate from what Clinton and Dad Bush were involved in doing.

Clinton is, of course, highly unsuitable for overseeing funds, but an agency that would appoint Angelina Jolie as a spokesperson is not going to appoint competent people.

Hopefully Clinton will demonstrate his incompetence and will tarnish his name further. At any rate, President Bush didn't nominate him to this position.

Thanks for the clarification and correction but Bush appointed him to to do this some time ago, along with the President's father.
And then there was this headline on Drudge: Bush picks brains of Clinton, father.
