There has to be another reason for this. Water rights? Minerals? Land speculation?

Who knows...just a feeling, but the Lizards are already here and seem to prefer Denver's airport..

Ever the pragmatist.

Bravo! Works for me!

I, for one, would like to see someone translate that phrase into Latin and then embroider it on a pillow...

"There has to be another reason for this."

Most likely PhDs and other bright people. There are a ton of them at White Sands, Socorro, Sandia Labs and Los Alamos.
Also there is no SNOW!

The Mysterious Marfa LightsAre they UFO's? Mirages? Secret military tests? Magnetic energy? 'Swamp Gas'? Who Knows? Come see 'em and see if you can explain them. ''We had 40 Japanese scientists come here for six weeks. They never found the reason for the lights.'' 'But,' she added with a softening of tone and conspiratorial air, 'I've sure seen the glowing gravestones of Van Horn.'' _ Roswell is within a short few hours' drive as well, while you're dealing with the aliens...
This area is rich in history, culture, potential, and memorable and exciting attractions and venues. Explorers, rock-hounds, fossil collectors, historians, amateur historians, metal detectors, and amateur archaeologists will have one of the most unique experiences imaginable as there are numerous abandoned Native American sites, mining camps, ghost-towns(and almost ghost towns) and relics from old Americana that offer those able to visit insights into the history of Texas and America that no one will forget!!

Water rights?

Not out there!

The city of El Paso pumps treated sewage back into the ground wells to supplement the water table.
