There is zero need for the religion to be a mix into the law of marriage.
Marriage is how society continues itslef and raises its next generation.
Homosexual based marriage is ONLY about recreational sex. An indulgence for adult activity.
Homosexuals can do EVERYTHING that a civil union can do with a basic cohabitation agreemtn avalable at your local office depot for a few dollars in their form stacks.
Just incase, the law has never considered "love" in part of marriage law.
newsflash, cohabitation agreements have been around for decades and while not common they have been used by heterosexuals who have just lived together.
there is no reason homosexuals can not do the same without redefining marriage. You are free to do a cohabitation agreement, provided you find a partner suited and agreeable and thus leave "marriage" out of your life if you so desire.
The purpose of marriage is for societal future. Homosexual behavior provides nothing to the continuation of society. Encouraging heterosexual behavior through marriage does everything to maximize the continuation of society. This includes all the ad infinitum arguments regarding probate, support of children, widows/widowers, and education of children in order to continue society.
Not a news flash but let the church's worry about "societal future" and let them define what is meant by that. I think they are far better equipped than Gov't. As I said before, I'd like to see people have more faith in their own religions and less faith in Gov't to solve the problems they see around them... and that goes for homs, hetros and whatever else comes down the road.
as far as the law is concerned, religion is irrelevent to marriage. is the marriage publicly recorded in a manner prescribed by law? (even the remaining states with common law marriage require some open and public act indicating a marriage be done to confirm the common law marriage)
As long as the marriage is publicly recorded you can solemnize it by sharing a cup of coffee in a dennys.
Government and the courts are not going to get out of marriage.
The only debate is whether marriage based on recreational sex is going to be allowed to redefine marriage down to a mere contract of adult sex.
So the sex is your issue! OK fine this would make a childless hetro marriage also but a contract of adult sex. Guess what, it's none of my business. I think the Gov't does not need to worry about "redefining marriage down" or redefining mariage up or sideways or anyways. Stay out of it... go to church for your answers NOT the city hall.
You know, i think you are right--at first I didn't really have a problem with civil unions, but ultimately "the agenda" seems to be to dumb us all down, to water down morality, to destroy what is GOOD for society.
Its as if we are being constantly attacked, weakened......
ping.
Thats pretty much my opinion, its not perfect but its closer than letting the definition of marriage be hijacked by the gov't
No sex is how society continues itself and raises its next generation. Marriage is a religious institution which people follow to be with only one! person their whole life while doing this. If Marriage is how society continues itself than adultery, fornication, could be not just sinful but illegal. Divorce should be near impossible, and having a kid out of wedlock would legally require the parents be married...
Homosexual based marriage is ONLY about recreational sex. An indulgence for adult activity.
They also beaseit on taxcodes, and social security benefits..
