PRISTINA, Serbia and Montenegro (Reuters) - A young brother of former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj was shot dead on Friday, his third brother to die violently since 1997.
A source in the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping force told Reuters that Enver Haradinaj, a student, was killed in an apparent clan dispute.
"It is not politically motivated," the KFOR source said.
Officials in the United Nations-administered protectorate issued an appeal to the public for calm.
The shooting occurred between the villages of Raushiq and Lubenic in western Kosovo, the Haradinaj homeland in a region known for long-standing Albanian blood feuds.
Ramush Haradinaj, a former regional commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) guerrillas, resigned in March and surrendered to the U.N. tribunal in The Hague on charges of crimes against civilians during the ethnic Albanian insurgency in 1998-99.
Brother Enver fought alongside Ramush while in his late teens. Two other Haradinaj brothers were killed in fighting during the guerrilla war, one in 1997 the other in 1998.
In 2002, a fourth Haradinaj brother was convicted by a Kosovo court of killing four members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kosovo (FARK), an Albanian rival of the KLA.
The heavy-handed crackdown by Serb forces provoked a NATO bombing campaign in 1999 against Belgrade and the withdrawal of Serb troops. Kosovo has been a United Nations protectorate since and talks on its final status are expected this year.
The chances are that KLA goons and their international mentors will try to spin this incident, blame Serbs and incite another pogrom in Kosovo.
According to Hashim Thaqi, $125M is missing from Kosovo budget. Where it went? To coffers of Patterson and others from Murder Inc. ?
All five Haradinaj brothers were terrorists and criminals. Two were killed in clashes with Serbian security forces, Two are in jail and one killed in ambush by criminal competitors.
Haradinaj Bros are finished. Someone will have to fill the void created on their turf and it will be violent and both guilty and innocent will die.
Stay safe, whoever is down there.
No doubt about that! We've seen that sort of thing here on FR.
