Killer of FReeper HeartofGold sentenced for second murder

Michael Gunther was sentenced today in Sarpy County, Nebraska to life without parole for the shooting death of Mike Zawodny last May.

During the trial, he also openly admitted killing my sister Sally Kennedy, known here as 'HeartofGold'.

I haven't gotten the details yet, but I'm told he also received an additional sentence on a gun charge.

This opens the way for Gunther's transfer to Iowa to stand trial for Sally's murder, which will probably take place sometime in July.

The bad news?

Nebraska prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

The good news?

He ain't never getting out.

My heartfelt thanks to all who prayed for Sally's kids.

I'm happy to say that they are doing pretty darned well, considering all they have had to go through.

I am so sorry for all you and yours have been through. My prayers for all of you...I've been in similar shoes (mom murdered when I was 15 during a robbery). It's a hard road but at least this part is behind you all.

I'm sickened by your sister's death. It's good that this man confessed, but your loss, and the loss of her many loved ones, remains great.

It's encouraging to know she's with the Lord, but still painful to see such a rich life taken from us.
