Dean Says Democrats Will Make Schiavo Case an Election Issue
LAT ^ | Apr. 16, 2005 | Michael Finnegan

Posted on 04/16/2005 12:21:50 AM PDT by FairOpinion

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said Friday that his party would wield the Terri Schiavo case against Republicans in the 2006 and 2008 elections, but for now needed to stay focused battling President Bush on Social Security.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's role in the end-of-life debate will be a main target, the DNC chairman says at a West Hollywood breakfast.

"This is going to be an issue in 2006, and it's going to be an issue in 2008," Dean told about 200 people at a gay rights group's breakfast in West Hollywood, "because we're going to have an ad with a picture of Tom DeLay saying, 'Do you want this guy to decide whether you die or not? Or is that going to be up to your loved ones?' "

In his breakfast speech, sponsored by Access Now for Gay and Lesbian Equality, Dean also took issue with fellow Democrats who had voted for proposed constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriage.

They'd use a dead woman as a campaign issue? Let 'em. It will backfire on them in the '06 elections.

I guess Dean doesn't know this:

Schiavo Protesters Not All Christian Conservatives

http://www.propertyrightsresearch.org/2005/articles03/schiavo_protesters_not_all_chris.htm

"Smith, 65, had polio as a child and described herself as a lesbian and a liberal who had demonstrated before in support of the disabled and causes supported by the conservative establishment's arch foe, the American Civil Liberties Union.

She said she thought that people who left written instructions to withhold medical treatment should have those wishes honored, but that withholding water and nutrition from Terri Schiavo, who left no such written instructions, was tantamount to murder.

"At this point I would rather have a right-wing Christian decide my fate than an ACLU member," Smith said."

I think the Dems don't realize how much real support there was for Terri, and not just among "right wing Christians".

Why Schiavo case worries the disabled

"For those of us in the organized disability rights movement, it looks like Schiavo is being put to death for the crime of being disabled."

He is so despicable he actually said THIS:

"We're going to use Terri Schiavo later on," Dean said of the brain-damaged Floridian who died last month after her feeding tube was removed amid a swarm of political controversy.

===

Note that he didn't even say, use the case, or the decisions, or the actions of Republicans, he actually said he is going to "use Terri Schiavo".

Exactly. I think Mad Howard put his foot in his mouth. He doesn't realize or care how callous, stupid, contemptible and crass it makes him sound. Americans don't go there. Whatever people's feelings about the propriety of Congressional intervention in the case were, the Republicans at least did it for a principled reason. The Democrats are going to be seen as expoiting Terri Schiavo for partisan gain. And that's going to really hurt them in Red States. If the Democrats want to be beaten on values, I definitely encourage Mad Howard to lead his party into uncharted territory.

I wonder if they realize that this is only a Beltway created pissy fit? Most people, certainly most Texans, don't care in the least about this latest D.C. Beltway media-driven nonsense. They can't have DeLay's head, and will end up very disappointed. Too bad...

The Dems had a bad election day last year. All that money and nothing to show for it but latte-stained t-shirts. Dan Rather shot himself in the mouth, George Soros's money couldn't swing the deal, life sucks for them. And worst of all, Iraq isn't a quagmire. What's a good Democrat going to do except to try and bring down a leading Republican?

And I am grateful that he is.

Dean is part of the group that just hate W just to hate him. They oppose anything that W favors without thinking. Dean will waste time and money trying to use Terri and he will not gain one vote. He would be wise to leave the Terri issue alone, but hatred destroys wisdom.

We opposed starving a woman to death based solely on the testimony of her already-shacked-up-and-moved-on husband.

Yeah, beat us over the head with that rap, willya Howie? If THAT'S a campaign issue, well, then you have no campaign.

"They offer nothing and fill the empty space with shrill attacks on Republicans. "

A great article and analysis about exactly that:

Assault on DeLay is All About Politics

http://www.conservative.org/columnists/lessner/04132005rl.asp

"The Democrats have no message and no vision for America. So they attack Republican leaders in a desperate attempt to block progress on the GOP agenda - lower taxes, a modernized Social Security system, constitutionalist judges and a strong military.

Democrats despise DeLay because he is a tough, principled conservative and an effective majority leader who is successful in driving the Republican agenda though the House. Unable to win elections, and bereft of anything positive to offer the country, the Democrats and their Soros-funded allies have become little more than a pack of seething scandalmongers."

We opposed starving a woman to death because its immoral, inhumane and illegal as well as the fact it goes against American beliefs in justice, fairness and compassion. Let's see you argue it was wrong to save her for ALL of the reasons I just mentioned. Mad Howie, by all means let's have that debate and let the American people decide.

Mad Howie might have a problem debating the Schiavo issue because he's 'pro-choice', and interned in a hospital assisting abortions. One can argue all day long about the quality of Terri's life, but it's hard to argue about the quality of an unborn's child's life.

JDAM is a missile, I don't remember what it stands for exactly -- Joint Direct Attack Munition ( I googled it, I heard the acronym, but forgot what it stood for)

It's our missile, we hit ground targets with it, from airplanes, if I recall correctly.

http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/missiles/jdam/jdam_back.htm

The Joint Direct Attack Munition — or JDAM — is a low-cost guidance kit that converts existing unguided free-fall bombs into accurately guided "smart" weapons. The JDAM kit consists of a new tail section that contains an Inertial Navigation System/Global Positioning System.

In actual use these weapons have proved to be very accurate and highly reliable. They can be accurately delivered in virtually any weather conditions. JDAM can be launched miles from the target and safely rely on the navigation system to update the weapon all the way to impact.

JDAM is a newer gen GPS guided weapon.
Its a play on themes regarding Geraldo and Dan.

Geraldo got caught after doing this staged stunt on Fox where he claimed he had just survived an errant U.S. JDAM at Tora Bora.
Turns out the JDAM incident was hundreds of miles away...and days before : )

Kinko's and the Dan Rather CBS attack on President Bushes Military service record... was like the Geraldo JDAM stunt.....he became an ASS....and we all cheered : )

Fox had a telepromter run below with errant JDAM...

My first thought was...."Oh my God....his legs have been blown off!!

For a split second or 2...one could see Mujhadeen types standing and looking at Geraldo like he was a lunatic.

Later....I read that he had set this stunt up.....and arranged it for a satellite feed.

The Afhgani's who were guides for his crew thought he was insane.....as he dropped to the ground before the camera and began to writhe around and throw dirt.
