WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney said yesterday he is prepared to cast the tie-breaking vote, if necessary, to change Senate rules and bar Democrats from using filibusters to block President Bush's judicial nominees.

"I would support an effort to restore the constitutional practices that existed before the Democrats started using the filibuster for judicial appointments," Cheney said aboard Air Force Two as the Senate stands on the brink of a partisan showdown on the issue.

I have been writing, faxing and raising hell on this issue to the President and leadership of the Senate.

They should change the rule, remove filibusters from debate on judicial nominations, and then after we have our judges, rescind the rule change.

This is strictly required to counter the evil practices of the Democrats. We don't need it forever and should get rid of it once the problem is resolved. It will stop them from doing it in the future even if the rule has been rescinded, but even more importantly, it would demonstrate the Republicans have the balls to do the job.

IF (I believe it will pass) this rule change fails the Senate Republicans should do exactly this.

Still, Republicans have used those and other Senate tactics to hold up Democratic nominees for other posts in the past and have tried to use filibusters against Democrats' judicial picks. GOP leadership never provided a floor vote for 24 of former President Clinton's appellate-court nominees; only two received a committee hearing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is misinformation. The Republicans have never used the filibuster to block judicial nominations. They have used other tactics, namely the fact that they had majorities on the committee and on the floor.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. "Participating in something designed to incite divisiveness and encourage contention is unacceptable. I would hope that Senator Frist will rise above something so beyond the pale."

I know what you mean Harry, I keep expecting the democrats to rise above the pale but they never do.

By Golly you're smarter than all the Senate Democrats! Of course that's not saying very much, as you could say the same thing about a flatworm.

They have voted some of them down. And the reverse is also true. Judicial nominees get VOTED down all the time.

The question is: is he and his president ready to make it a test of party loyalty and to punish those RINO's who vote against us? Because just bringing it up for a vote is probably a loser unless some serious arm-breaking happens.

This is just clear evidence why the msm is losing it's power..to write something so untrue and wrong and pass it off as news would have worked 10-20 years ago..but with the internet and other alternative media..these lies are dying by the grapevine..(hey..wasn't newt lied about that line once?)..
