STOWAWAY BOARDED US CARRIER

By Suzanne Pert A NEWPORT man who boarded an American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier anchored in The Solent has been made subject to an anti-social behaviour order and banned from named sensitive areas.

Abdoul Masmoud Yessoufou, 37, whose address was given at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday as East Street, Newport, admitted entering a prohibited area at Portsmouth Docks. The court was told that Yessoufou was found on the USS Harry S. Truman at the weekend after he strolled past guards and hitched a ride out to the carrier on a boat used by sailors on runs ashore. Yessoufou had previously appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates three times this year for entering restricted zones at Heathrow. He also reached the side of an aircraft at Southampton Airport in January.

I was in the engine room on a US Navy fast attack sub (in port) when a civilian strolled by on a self proclaimed tour.

One who stows away on a ship with thousands of people aboard is arguably overly-social.

Perhaps the terrorist unit need to put a tail on this guy. There's so many cops in this world that maybe we could spare ONE to tail this guy.

I think this guy has been reading Marcinko's "Rogue Warrior". One of his more comical adventures as a SEAL was an assignment to test the security of our docked nuclear subs. They sailed right up to a boomer, in a speedboat with a Soviet flag hanging from the stern, and walked the length of its deck without being challenged.

I'd bet a month's beer allowance that the guard was not a Marine but a civilian contractor "security guard." We have contracted out far, far too many aspects of our military functions. If, in fact, it was a Marine, he should be subject to a summary court--not merely an Article 15. Violation of the General Orders governing guard duty is a serious offense and punishable under UCMJ Punitive Articles.

"Abdoul Masmoud Yessoufou . . ."

Probably could board any airline in the USA, too; but if you're an 80 year-old grandmother in a wheelchair,
you'll probably be thoroughly searched and detained. . .

Just a simple muslim plane spotter, who likes aircraft carriers.

Curious, it seems to be extremely incomplete. Damn those Ilse of Wightians, they are known for their lack of details.

Or perhaps I am simply unable to undestand the article in full, as the content is too far over my.

Or maybe it's in code. hmmm?

We need to get some CIA operatives into the Isle of Wight NOW.

>>>Abdoul Masmoud Yessoufou<<<

I knew we were having trouble keeping the "Abdoul's of the world" out of the US.

It's a hell of a lot worse when we are having trouble keeping them off our aircraft carriers.

I want to know where he came from, where he's been and who he's talked to for the past 10 years before he sees the light of day.

SEAL teams used to do that with regularity.

Once, a SEAL team "tested" the security aboard a SSN in Groton. Problem was some people (brass) didn't know of the exercise and a SEAL got 10-ringed by the Watch on another boat.

If the SEAL hadn't been wearing a vest---he'd be dead

We can't be using cops to save us from pedophiles or terrorists....we're too busy using them to guard dis-abled young women to make sure their parents don't give them a sip of water while they starve to death.

Are things crazy or what?

A Google search of Yessoufou reveals precious little, except that he is from West Africa, with no permanent address.

His sentence is to be banned from restricted areas??
You and I are banned from sensitive, restrictive areas.
That's like saying the appropriate sentence for robbery is not to commit robbery. This is his 4th breach of security... hardly a coincidence. This is just plain odd, and disturbing.

Sailors run the brig, in pressed BDUs (with a nod to A.A Cunningham--you used to be correct though, sad as I am to admit it).

We have Marines on this big ship, but they're just one of four Hornet squadrons. Ship's security has become a Navy responsibility.

I miss seeing the Skipper's personal Marine escort with him as the CO toured the ship. Usually a super-squared away guy with a scowl on his face, causing all squids to jump out of the way if the CO was in a rush.

Squids run their own brigs. MARDET left the last carrier around January of 1998. The removal of tactical nukes as well as the reduction of manpower levels and drawdown from a ~600 ship Navy were the main reasons. Sea School at MCRD San Diego was disestablished back in the 80s. What was left of the MARDETs was used to create a second FAST company. There was talk about a year ago that MARDET might be reestablished due to the increase in boardings in the War on Terror but I don't think it got much past the discussion stage. Congress would have to authorize an increase in manpower, budgets, etc. Some squids are against the idea because they draw extra pay if they take part in a certain number of boardings per month. Other squids, including a number of ship COs, just don't want Marines on their boats.
