U.S. Sen. Jack Reed Weds Julia Hart
Ceremony Held At West Point
POSTED: 9:22 am EDT April 17, 2005
UPDATED: 9:30 am EDT April 17, 2005
WEST POINT, N.Y. -- U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., married Julia Hart on Saturday in a ceremony at the United States Military Academy, which Reed, a former Army Ranger, attended.
Reed, 55, and Hart, 39, were wed in a ceremony at the academy's Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity. Rev. Raymond Malm, pastor of St. Michael's Church in Providence, officiated. The couple's attendants included eight of their nieces, as well as other family and friends.
A luncheon reception was to follow at the academy's James H. Herbert Alumni Center.
Hart, of Arlington, Va., is an Interparliamentary Coordinator in the Office of the Secretary of the United States Senate, Interparliamentary Services. The office handles the Senate's international travel as well as other contact with foreign governments.
She and Reed first met on a trip to Afghanistan in 2002.
The pair didn't begin dating until August 2003, after a chance meeting in Rhode Island, where Hart was visiting family.
They were engaged Nov. 24, 2004, during a visit to New York City to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and tour the Gilbert Stuart exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum.
The couple was not planning an immediate honeymoon trip. Reed was expected back at work in the Senate in the coming week.
It is the first marriage for both.

Reed was a VN vet (airborne?), but he is a real liberal. Well to be specific he is a real demo. He has a genetic dislike of republicans.
I'm 52 (3 years younger than him) and if I married a 39 year old (with a geat bod) some people might think it robbing the cradle.

LOL, I just checked Reed's ACU rating - - big fat ZERO for 2004 and 8 lifetime.
This guy Reed is a real scumbag!

When I first saw this story, I almost choked on my nachos. The fact that Sen. Reed is getting, ahem, "married," is QUITE the surprise... This will seriously jeopardize his standing as National Treasurer for the Judy Garland Fan Club...
*cough*

Your point is well taken.
It's not so much who a person marries. I was engaged to a woman 20 years my junior.
My issue is what the press does with it. If a Repub does it, they go overboard on it robbing the cradle. Yet I saw nothing quesioning it on the local media.
As far as what any individual does, I have no qualms.

Well, I married a sweetness almost 25 years ago who is 15 1/2 years younger and still has her beauty (she was 20, I was 35)..... AND most important we have both been very happy to this day.
I do know that I took a large ration of cr*p about 'robbing the cradle' for a while. The fact is, she pursued ME! I'm the one who had to be convinced.

The only drawback is we have young kids...a 14 year old and 7 year old twins. I kinda get tired when out shopping having folks approach me and tell me my "grandkids" are well behaved.

I can imagine. My youngest just turned 15 and when I first meet teachers, parents etc I can tell the double take. It's usually not bad as I still have 31"waist and look ok. My son said his history teacher did have a double take when he told the class his dad was in country during Tet '68. It's been great but I will never fully retire. I know that, but don't mind at all.

Well we can at least hope and pray that Reed has had a vasectomy, I'd hate to think another 'Rat is getting ready to breed more liberal offspring, and at 39, the new Mrs. Reed still has reproductive potential.

Assuming Reed's a pro-abort, this should not have occurred in a Catholic Church. I don't care if he was a ranger and the church is at West Point. ProLife Ping!
