UN game teaches kids to feed the hungry (major barf alert)

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has released a game called Food Force. Available for download for free, the game is compatible with Macs and PCs. The WFP's goal in releasing Food Force is to educate players about world hunger and the work the aid agency does.

The game puts players in charge of a hunger relief effort on the fictional Indian Ocean island of Sheylan, ravaged by a civil war, flooding and drought. You lead a crack multinational team of WFP professionals including a logistics officer, nutritionist and air drop specialist, and you must lead the team through six missions to bring food and supplies to the desperate natives of Sheylan -- everything from air surveillance to figuring out a good balanced diet, airdropping supplies, and helping natives get the most out of their natural resources by planning future farming efforts.

lead a crack multinational team of WFP professionals

who arrive in limos 3 months late, arrange 4 Star hotel accomadations, molest the local children, and then assume credit for relief efforts done by Americans already on the ground.

(hat tip Diplomad, sadly no longer in service)

Do you lose points if some of your peacekeepers have to be treated for injuries occurring while "abusing" the farm animals?

And ten years later there will be a worse famine, because when you just feed poor people, all you get is more poor people.

I just read where we taxpayers are giving, GIVING, Rowanda 1.8 BILLION and asking NOTHING in return!

I have family of my own family to feed, house, cloth and educate!
Not to mention caring for my 84 yr. old motherinlaw!

It's probably worthy of some jocularity, but why is feeding the hungry worthy of a barf alert? Feeding the hungry is probably one of the most important things we can do, and would help fix some of the world's problems.

Were you expecting the UN to come out with an updated version of Risk or something?

Do the Rwandans have something you'd like? I'm sure all you'd have to do is ask.

Sure looks like all you do is feed poor people.

Why is the UN wasting money on a video game in the first place?

Oooo! Do you get to the Mugabe level where you can plan future farming efforts and turn your country from a continent's breadbasket into a basket case.

That's why I said the game is worthy of being the butt of a few jokes. I was just wondering why the premise of feeding the the hungry is worthy of a barf alert.

air surveillance ... balanced diet ... airdropping supplies ... maximizing natural resources ... planning future farming efforts

Sounds like a thesis for a master's degree in rocket science. The kids will have a lot of fun with this one.

I wonder if there is an Oil-for-Food mission, where the player takes on the role of Kofi Annan, and get extra points by taking bribes.

The bart Alert is the UN "game" where they pretend to be this world hunger relief organization that actualy does what this game suggests. In reality it does not.

Feeding the hungry isn't the answer either, what you create is a welfare type of situation where the hungry just continue to be hungry, and you, because you fed them, have to keep on feeding them. Never feed a stray cat, it will never go away.

What's better is to create the conditions where they can feed themselves. Eliminate the dictatorships and totalitarian regimes which created their situation in the first place. All the UN does is give these regimes food aid and money which doesn't go to feeding the hungry, it goes to feed and arm their army of genicidal murderers.

Other games in the pipeline.

Scribble-a word game involving “Jargonistic” words with no meaning.

Risk nothing-A game that teaches you all you need to know about the UN

Crew Dough-Travel to countries to find the scandals that plague the organization. Kojo in Iraq, with the cookie Jar?

Ultracandyland-The Job is yours, but can you keep it? As the new Sec.Gen, can you hide all the corruption, and more importantly spend it!

Bravo. The best foreign aid the US can give anyone is to end corruption/statism within a foreign government and introduce free markets/capitalism to the populace. Some countries which are quite democratic/free still have a large number of people in absolute poverty and hunger because the politicos are corrupt, stupid, and/or socialist.

Reminds me of something I saw today on another thread:

"There was an excellent shot of American grain being offloaded from a ship. The bags were red, white, and blue. The lettering said, "A Gift from the People of the United States of America". The grain went directly to the black market."
