I used to live in this area. At "Our Lady of the Angels" Parish too (don't ask).

Hmm...Gotta say it's WAY better than most of these "images."

Can somebody who is a Catholic help this poor heathen to understand what images of Mary are supposed to represent? I mean, does this have a specific prophetic message or is it just a general thing that keeps the base energized? I mean this sincerely and am not trying to rip anyone's religious beliefs - I have enough hate mail from the old women who are angry about the proposed cat killing regulations in WI.

Can somebody who is a Catholic help this poor heathen to understand what images of Mary are supposed to represent? She has an incredible sense of humor.

Virgin Mary? Kennedy Expressway? Why does this strike me as funny?

As Christ came through Mary, man comes to God through Christ.
There is much symbolism and allegory to consider.
Read up on the Doctrine of Immaculate Conception (Mary's -Mother-) I realizr this isn't an answer to your question, but you can't really just ask someone to explain something such broad topics in a thread, you have to crack a few books ;>
Perhaps others could suggest some recommended reading.
I would suggest the New Testament ;>

I hope that is true - I'll need a heap of excuses and humor might help.

"It's a miracle. It's an image. You can't describe it. It's the first time I've seen something like this," said one witness, Jose Recinos. It's about claiming territory as "ours" through divine manifestation. Take note of who finds these images.

They'll have a hard time selling this one on E Bay.

I think I understand the basic Catholic concept of the Immaculate Conception and due to my upbringing, I have a fairly sound knowledge of the NT. What puzzles me is the meaning. Is it just a sign of divine presence or does it convey a more imminent theological purpose?

Can somebody who is a Catholic help this poor heathen to understand what images of Mary are supposed to represent? I find it interesting that one of these images appeared on an office building in Clearwater, FL, ten miles from Terri Schiavo's hospice. Now there's one in Chicago where a man is starving to death his thirty something year old wife who had a stroke. Do you think it could be a wake up call?

I get your drift and I suppose it's possible. Beats gang graffiti.

Do you think it could be a wake up call? I think a lightning bolt from heaven striking down Michael Schiavo or his lawyer during a live press conference would be a much better wake up call.
