RADICAL MUSLIMS STORM ELECTION MEETING (LONDON)
Yahoooooooooooooooooooo via Reuters ^ | 4/19/05

Posted on 04/19/2005 7:39:50 AM PDT by areafiftyone

LONDON (Reuters) - Radical Islamists broke into a news conference held by moderate Muslims on Tuesday, denounced Prime Minister Tony Blair as Satan and urged Muslims to boycott next month's election.

Around 20 protesters, many wearing scarves to hide their faces, ripped a locked door off its hinges at one of London's main mosques and burst into the event organised by the country's main Islamic lobby group the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).

They pushed their way to the front of the room, stood on chairs and shouted slogans against the MCB, Blair, Jews, Christians, apostates and the entire political system.

"Tony Blair can go to hell! Tony Blair can go to hell!," they chanted as television cameras turned on them. "There is no God but Allah!"

The protest laid bare tensions within the country's 1.6 million-strong Islamic community, where a minority of hardliners often garners publicity for radical opinions including praise of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Those tensions are mirrored elsewhere in Europe, notably in France which is home to the continent's largest Islamic community as well as its biggest Jewish community.

After about 20 minutes, the protesters -- young, male, mostly bearded and wearing traditional Muslim dress including headcaps and flowing robes -- left of their own accord.

In leaflets handed to reporters, they identified themselves as belonging to a group called "The Saviour Sect."

GO TO HELLFIRE!

The protesters said the MCB, a respected collection of some 400 Muslim organisations throughout Britain, was a mouthpiece of the government.

"Go to hellfire Sacranie," one of them shouted at MCB leader Iqbal Sacranie, who tried to reason with the demonstrators.

They accused the MCB of doing nothing to help Muslims held in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison while sending representatives to Baghdad last year to try, unsuccessfully, to secure the release of hostage Kenneth Bigley.

They shouted slogans relating to Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay as well as Iraq.

The MCB played down the protest and, when the news conference finally started, highlighted issues it says will be of concern to Muslims in the May 5 election.

Other moderate Muslims condemned the protest.

"The Prophet Mohammed, peace be with him, would never have acted in such a manner," said Ali Miraj, standing as a candidate for the Conservatives in Watford.

"We have to take on the Bakris, the Abu Hamzas and the Bin Ladens of this world," he said, referring to two well-known British-based radical Islamists as well as the al Qaeda leader.

Fiyaz Mughal, chairman of the Liberal Democrats' group for ethnic minorities, said the protesters "in no way represent the history of Islam" and cited Bosnia and Moorish Spain as examples of societies where Muslims and non-Muslims had lived in peace.

The MCB's Sher Khan dismissed the radicals as "bullies".

Moderate Muslims are urging a big turnout from their community in the election, saying Islamic voters may hold the key to dozens of parliamentary seats.

At the last election, in 2001, Muslims supported Prime Minister Tony Blair en masse, but his policy in Iraq and Muslim anger at their perceived stigmatisation by anti-terrorism measures mean Blair can no longer count on their support.

Can't wait for this to happen:

Saudi Arabia - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bibles are illegal. Churches are illegal.

Yemen - Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims and forbids conversions. The Government does not allow the building of new non-Muslim places of worship.

Kuwait - Registration and licensing of religious groups. Members of religions not sanctioned in the Koran may not build places of worship. Prohibits organized religious education for religions other than Islam.

Egypt - Islam is the official state religion and primary source of legislation. Accordingly, religious practices that conflict with Islamic law are prohibited. Muslims may face legal problems if they convert to another faith. Requires non-Muslims to obtain what is now a presidential decree to build a place of worship.

Algeria - The law prohibits public assembly for purposes of practicing a faith other than Islam. Non-Islamic proselytizing is illegal, and the Government restricts the importation of non-Islamic literature for distribution.

Jordan - Has the death penalty for any Muslim selling land to a Jew.

He sure wouldn't have.

He would have killed everyone in the room and then divvied up their wives and daughters among his followers.

I am waiting for these types of incidents to push voters into the arms of the Tories. The Tories have taken a strong stand on immigration - here's the reason why one should take such a stand.

"Dressed in flowing robes" and "bearded" also happens to perfectly describe the average Muslim woman, as well. :)

Funny to think about "moderate" Muslims needing to hire security at their own mosques. Sounds like they could have used some at this one.

Ivan, I have not been keeping up on your posts but I take it from this you are supporting the Conservatives in this election? I hate to see the anti-war crowd claim a success through the ousting of another pro-war prime minister and the Conservatives have talked out every side of their mouths about the war. Howver, Labour's policies on virtually every other subject seem to out of the democrat's playbook and maybe even further to the left. How do you think this election will play out?

Thanks in advance.

I will never vote Labour; the only exception would be is if I could vote for Blair in his constituency. Believe me, I'm holding my nose as I vote Tory - these are not the days of power and glory like when Mrs. Thatcher was in charge.

However, the likely outcome is a Labour victory, but with a reduced majority. Much will remain the same. I hope that the Tories will learn from this, but I'm slightly cynical about that prospect.

At least here he's being honest (and probably not meaning to be)....the Pedophile Mohammed (Piss Be Upon Him) would have KILLED those who disagreed with him, and then claimed that "Allah"....sorry, Satan, now allowed him to take the dead's daughters as concubines.
