Border State news...no more sanctuary policies for illegals away from the actual borders...at least in Arizona.

As others have said, though, LaGubernadora is likely to veto it.

I think it will pass. Nappy will veto it though.

She is of impeachable character.

Opponents say such a massive undertaking would detract from the traditional roles police have in protecting communities from crime

No one is suggesting that police and sheriffs deputies sweep the cities for illegal aliens. However when they come into contact with illegal alien “bad actors” in the normal course of their duties they must be allowed to use all available tools including immigration enforcement to protect the community. I am not suggesting that they “must” in every case take an illegal alien into custody i.e. if the alien is a witness or victim of a crime the officer must have discretion. The local beet cops know who the bad guys are that even the other illegal aliens don’t want around.

This will enhance not detract from their primary roles and more importantly their responsibilities.

Why would anyone oppose this law - unless they have a vested interest, are blackmailed, or worse.

The police dept. is tasked with keeping law and order. They don't need new laws, they don't need anything but an o.k. from their bosses to be able to keep law and order. That includes turning over illegals to INS or whatever they call it now. I can't understand how such a sophisticated country as the US can get sooo stupid soooo fast. Common sense should rule. If you are illegal don't come!! In any other country in Central or South America they shoot border jumpers first and ask questions later.

Spiff, Do you think that the legislature will override her veto?

The police who are crying about the extra work and expense are the high muckie mucks just like the BP. I'll bet the rank and file cops are all for it.

This will actually represent the biggest part of the problem, forcing INS (now) DHS to take custody of the aliens and actually remove them. Its not an insurmountable problem, however if past history is any indicator it will take considerable public pressure to force their hand.

The state agencies will probably have to transport the aliens to the nearest DHS office and drop them off. This was actually the established practice before all the stupidity with sanctuary started in the 1980s.

blaming Bush is kind of silly

Silly? He IS to blame, along with his predecessor Billy Bob Clinton, who also refused to enforce immigration laws, violating their oath of office to protect America from invasion.

that just makes 2 much sense!

(/s)

i remember the socialists on the los angeles city council circa 1988 denying the l.a. police the right to even touch an illegal.

and that the proposal could lead to racial profiling of Latinos.

Imagine that...Well they could do like the air port security and just check people with a Danish accent...

Might be a good idea to check the citizenship status of the police first...

RINOs Steve Huffman, Tom O'Halleran, and Pete Hershberger were the only Republicans opposing this legislation.

No there is one more:

Russell L. Jones N

He is my rep. He owns an import, export business, in San Luis, Az. some of us have been concerned about his position on border issues. His votes had been pretty good up until this one. We are going to have to keep a sharp eye on him.

Depending on the final result of this, a Yuma City Councilman is planning to bring something like this before the city council.
